ECRU travelled to Broome, Geraldton, Busselton, Northam, Kalgoorlie, Narrogin, Karratha and Albany, and also held three sessions in the metro area in Subiaco, Kwinana and Warwick. Over 1500 professionals from the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector registered to participate in 26 sessions. An opening welcome address by Dorothy Bagshaw (Aunty Dot) and commencement address by ECRU Quality Manager Jodie Gray kicked off the Roadshows on Early Childhood Educators Day. The attendees joined a variety of sessions by guest presenters. Wendy Harmon is a Lecturer of Early Childhood Studies at Edith Cowan University (ECU). Wendy’s presentation on version 2 of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) focused on collaborative leadership and teamwork and the interdependent elements of the EYLF. Using their centre philosophy as a basis, attendees engaged in professional conversations to deepen their understanding of the link between Vision, Principles, Practices and Learning Outcomes in order to positively impact on children’s learning. Another presenter from ECU was Professor Lennie Barblett AM, who gave an overview of the updates to the approved learning frameworks. Lennie contributed to the development of the ELYF and shared the research behind the ELYF. Pamela Chatfield the Education Manager at Reconciliation WA presented on Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives. This presentation focussed on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history, cultural responsiveness and Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs) and how to develop authentic connections with Narragunnawali, the community and Reconciliation WA. Emma Obst, Lynsey Warbey, Steve Cummings from Ombudsman WA discussed the Reportable Conduct Scheme. Attendees gained an understanding of their responsibilities to notify the Ombudsman of allegations or convictions relating to child abuse by employees under the Reportable Conduct Scheme. Thanks to the Ombudsman WA team for attending and sharing information with the ECEC sector. We heard a very interesting recording from an approved provider (AP), Todd Dawson, the State Manager at Goodstart Early Learning. Todd told us about the reconciliation journey from the perspective of an AP. The Investigations team from ECRU attended all the Roadshows and presented information about important issues, including summer hazards, burns prevention and the top 10 non-compliances in WA. Representatives from the Education and Care Legislation and Intergovernmental Relations (ECLIR) team spoke to attendees about upcoming changes to the legislation in WA and answered any questions about the new legislation. A very well received session was the QIP and Self-Assessment Workshop presented by Jodie Gray and Lauren Bowen from ECRU. Jodie is the Quality Manager and Lauren is a Team Leader, Assessments. Attendees brought along their service Quality Improvement Plan and worked together to unpack their understanding of how to effectively self-assess practice to inform quality improvement planning which supports continuous improvement. This information was exclusive to those who attended the workshop and is not shared outside of the Roadshow. Thank youThe sessions were well supported by the ECEC sector. We promote the continuous improvement and growth of our sector. The Roadshows offer the opportunity to meet with other providers and services, share information, develop staff and learn together. ECRU would like to thank all the presenters for their contribution to realise such a successful event. And thank you to all the attendees who came along to participate. Gallery |
