Dear Members,
Following strong interest from members, we’re pleased to share a clearer overview of the current redevelopment works (Stage 1), along with how this stage fits into the Club’s longer-term plans.
Current Redevelopment (Stage 1)
Stage 1 of the redevelopment focuses on improving access, safety, and outdoor circulation across the lower end of the site, particularly around the Clubhouse and Courts 1–6.
What is included in Stage 1
|
These improvements are designed to significantly improve usability, safety, and overall amenity across this part of the Club.
Car Parking & Clubhouse During the Works
|
Important information during works: The Clubhouse is closed until further notice.
Parking & Access During Works |
Parking may be busy at times. Members are encouraged to:
- Use the soccer oval car park as the primary option
- If the soccer car park is full, utilise Darling Station car park or street parking along Frances Crescent
Do not drive into the Club via the Court 6–7 walkway, as this area will have constant foot traffic, including children.
Court Sprinklers & Watering (Courts 1–6)
As part of Stage 1 works, the sprinklers at the Clubhouse end of Courts 1–6 have been temporarily removed to allow for earthworks. These will be reinstated towards the end of this stage.
During this time, it is especially important that members water the courts fence-to-fence before and after play, particularly at the Clubhouse end, to help maintain court quality.
Clubhouse & Amenities – Not Included in Stage 1
The following items are not included in the current Stage 1 works:
- New clubhouse construction
- Clubhouse amenities, including toilets
These items form part of Stage 2 of the redevelopment, which will include a new clubhouse, toilets, and internal amenities. The Club is actively seeking funding to progress this next stage. Once funding is secured and designs are finalised, members will be kept fully informed.
Design & Tender Process
Following the tender process, the City of Stonnington worked with their appointed contractor to refine the Stage 1 design. This process balanced the original project brief, the Council’s available budget, and the cost implications of all requested elements.
Once the finalised design documentation is received, it will be made available to interested members upon request. Please feel free to stop by and speak with Sarah in the temporary office.
Court Lighting (Courts 7–10)
Separate to the Stage 1 works, lighting upgrades to Courts 7–10 are being managed as a standalone project. Council is aware of the urgency due to high court usage and the end of daylight savings, and work is underway to secure funding. We are hopeful these works will progress within the next month or so.
Thank you, as always, for your patience and support during this important period for the Club.
Warm regards,
East Malvern Tennis Club Committee
