Welcome to this fortnight's edition of Connecting our Community! As we wrap up another wonderful year, we want to extend our sincere thanks to the Logan community. Residents are reminded that Christmas Day (Thursday, 25 December); Boxing Day (Friday, 26 December) and New Year’s Day (Thursday, 1 January) are public holidays in the City of Logan, and Council facilities will be closed. 🎁Give the gift of connection: volunteer for the ACVVS program Do you have a few hours to spare? Give back to your community this holiday season by becoming a volunteer with the Aged Care Volunteer Visiting Service (ACVVS). Multilink Community Services are looking for compassionate volunteers to visit older individuals in your area to help reduce social and cultural isolation. Your time and kindness can make a real difference in someone's life, especially as we head into the Christmas season. Youth Mental Health First Aid training in 2026 The Metro South Addiction and Mental Health Services (MSAMHS) Disaster Flood Team invites community members to join a free, two-day Youth Mental Health First Aid training. Learn practical skills to support young people’s mental health and wellbeing. Places are limited, so be sure to RSVP early. Lunch and snacks are BYO. Registrations open for the 2026 Multicultural Health Symposium The Multicultural Health Symposium returns in 2026 as a vibrant forum for advancing equity, innovation, and culturally responsive healthcare. With Queensland’s rich diversity, this two-day event brings together professionals, researchers, policymakers, and community leaders to share insights and co-design solutions for health equity. The event will be held both in-person and online, and is designed for healthcare professionals, community partners, and anyone committed to building a more inclusive and equitable health system. Supporting menstrual equity in our community Share the Dignity’s 2024 Bloody Big Survey revealed that 64% of people in Logan struggle to afford period products - an alarming statistic. The survey also highlighted the ongoing shame, stigma, and lack of awareness and education about menstruation. We’re proud to partner with Share the Dignity through the new Council Cares initiative, aiming to increase understanding and break down barriers. Community EventsLogan Christmas lights 2025 list The City of Logan is lighting up for Christmas with a spectacular range of Christmas lights delighting children throughout the suburbs. The team at Our Logan has put together the best list of 80 houses across 33 suburbs ready to share their Christmas lights displays with you. From walk through displays, Santa appearing, photo opportunities in sleighs and gingerbread houses, to admiring giant inflatables and thousands of lights synchronised to music from the comfort of your car, make this holiday season memorable and visit houses near you.
The Soundtrack of Your Mind – Music Therapy Workshop 🎵 Discover the power of music at this unique workshop designed for people living with dementia or other neurological conditions, as well as their families and carers. Paid aged care and NDIS support workers, along with allied health practitioners supporting clients at home, are also welcome. Gain confidence, use music to support wellbeing, and create a personalised playlist for everyday life. Connect socially and make music part of your care routine. Community ProgramsActive & Healthy program break The Active & Healthy program will pause activity delivery over the Christmas and New Year holiday period. All activities will resume on Sunday 11 January 2026 Swim, dance, cook, stretch or run to a healthier you in the new year with our Active & Healthy program
Get ready to KRANK it up! Check out the new free and low-cost activities these school holidays. Jam-packed full of fun, the KRANK School Holiday program is for young people aged 5 to 17 years, who live in the city of Logan. Over 140 exciting activities are being delivered from Saturday 10 January to Sunday 25 January 2026. Bookings open: 9am, Monday 15 December 2025.
Funding OpportunitiesApplications are now open for Alpha First Aid’s '$500 Towards a Defibrillator' Grant program. Quick access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can make all the difference in an emergency, and this grant helps improve safety in community spaces. Community organisations, sporting clubs, and not-for-profits can apply for a $500 grant to help purchase an Alpha First Aid - Mindray C1A Save a Life AED Bundle. Applications close: No deadline – applications are accepted year-round. Applications are now open for the Healing Foundation’s 2025/26 Stolen Generations Grants. These grants support Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCO's) to deliver healing, storytelling and commemorative activities for Stolen Generations survivors and their descendants. Funding from $5,000 to $50,000 is available for projects such as healing camps, trauma-informed programs, community memorials, and storytelling initiatives. Applications close: 5pm AEST, Monday 22 December 2025 Applications are now open for the Growing the Peer Workforce Grant, funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. This program supports initiatives to expand the mental health and suicide prevention peer workforce by supporting 500 training placements for lived experience (peer) worker students. Eligible organisations are encouraged to apply for their share of $2.75 million to grow a skilled and sustainable workforce.
