Welcome, NAMP MD Class of 2030
A new chapter has officially begun! Our NAMP MD Class of 2030 recently joined University of Alberta Medical Student Orientation Week, connecting with classmates, exploring campus and getting their first look at life as medical students. From campus tours and academic sessions to exciting welcome events and community-building activities, it was a week filled with connection, discovery and anticipation.
Welcome to the NAMP family, Class of 2030! We can’t wait to see where this incredible journey takes you!
From One Med Student to Another: First-Year Survival Tips
Beginning medical school is both exciting and challenging. To help our incoming Year 1 students start their journey with confidence, our Year 2 students are sharing practical advice, study tips and words of encouragement based on their own first-year experiences. After all, some of the best guidance comes from those who have recently walked the same path.
NAMP has a lot of unique, career-building opportunities if you take initiative and approach everything with an open-mind. Buying into the program lets you form relationships with classmates and faculty in a special way. Also, make sure you have at least one conversation with Councilor Mike this year.

Don't take too much on all at once. There will be endless ways to get involved and not all of them require you committing in September before you've found your rhythm. If something strikes your interest, talk to an upper year who's already tried it and make sure it's something you'll find fulfilling instead of draining.
Keep active! Most of us can be found at Eastlink at some point in the day and there are trails to Muskoseepi park from right outside the hospital for running. It's important to let go of stress.

Hi NAMP Class of 2030! We’re so thrilled to be welcoming you to Grande Prairie and the NAMP campus. My advice: embrace the classmates sharing this journey with you. You’re in a unique position being part of a small program and your fellow NAMPers will become lifelong friends and future colleagues. These are your people - lean on each other, commiserate together (especially when you start learning ECGs!!!), learn from one another and celebrate all of the milestones you achieve along the way.

Inspiring Future Healthcare Professionals
This summer, the Northern Alberta Medical Program (NAMP) proudly hosted the third annual Asclepius Medical Camp at Northwestern Polytechnic's Health Education Centre in Grande Prairie. The free five-day camp welcomed 60 students entering Grades 10–12 from across Northern Alberta for an immersive introduction to careers in healthcare.
Led by first- and second-year University of Alberta medical students from Edmonton and Grande Prairie, participants took part in hands-on workshops, clinical simulations and presentations from physicians, healthcare professionals and medical students, gaining valuable insight into the journey to medical school.
The camp supports NAMP's commitment to Recruit Local, Train Local, Retain Local by inspiring students from Northern Alberta and rural communities to pursue healthcare careers close to home.
Thank you to The City of Grande Prairie for their generous funding and partnership in helping make this incredible opportunity possible for future medical students.

Teach Future Physicians Through Case Based Learning
The purpose of Case Based Learning is to reinforce teaching points from lectures and allow students to apply their knowledge in a clinical context.
The CBL sessions have been highly valued by the students as an excellent opportunity to see the direct clinical relevance of their classroom learning. For some students, the sessions have sparked an interest in further GI electives.

Join Us This Fall for NAMP Faculty Development
Join us this fall at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for the Northern Alberta Medical Program's Faculty Development event. Taking place October 23-24, this expanded day-and-a-half, in-person gathering will bring together physician and non-physician educators from across the region for learning, collaboration, and connection.
Participants will explore practical topics such as teaching in busy clinical settings, providing effective feedback, academic integrity, and curriculum mapping. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for registration details—we look forward to learning together!
