The power of giving

Emma Rutherford

Serving up success on and off the court

Emma Rutherford is excelling in both STEM and sports, supported by donor-funded scholarships, world-class facilities and hands-on research opportunities. As captain of the U of A’s Pandas tennis team, she’s won plenty—but for her, success is about more than championships. It’s about opportunity.

Balancing a top biomedical engineering program with varsity athletics takes more than talent—it takes support. Thanks to generous donors who support scholarships, Emma has the opportunity to thrive and focus on her studies. Through the Engineering Co-op Program, she’s gained hands-on experience in everything from biomedical research to oil sands facilities, shaping her future and building her confidence.

“Knowing that other people had the confidence to invest in me—it’s life-changing,” she says.
