Alumnae News

At the end of a busy academic year, I am grateful for the strong sense of community at South Hampstead.

It has been a pleasure to invite a variety of alumnae speakers back to school this term to inspire and motivate our students with their carer stories. Thank you for your continued generous support for our bursary programme. Next year, we are delighted to welcome 14 new students to South Hampstead on 100%+ bursary places.

I wish you all a restful and relaxing summer, and hope to welcome you back to South Hampstead at one of our many events during the autumn term.

Headmistress, Victoria Bingham

Farewell to Doris

At the end of this term, we said goodbye to one of our longest serving teachers, Doris Hugh. We invited former staff back to South Hampstead for a special leaving tea to celebrate Doris teaching French for 28 years and holding leadership positions at the school.

We wish Doris all the best for a very active retirement, and look forward to her helping out in the Philanthropy and Alumnae department next term where she will be looking after our Honorary Alumnae community for longstanding former staff members and friends.

Millennium bricks

Did you donate a brick for our Millennium playground? Over the summer, we will be re-laying the bricks into our newly designed Oakwood Sixth Form garden. If your name is on a brick, please let us know! We'd like to invite everyone who donated to the project to a special re-dedication ceremony at our Alumnae Reunion in March 2023.

Cookery Book

Do you have a favourite recipe that you'd like to share with the SHHS community? Staff members Sara Bell and Vicky Spawls are compiling a cookery book to raise awareness and funds for our bursary scheme. Thank you for all the recipes received so far. We are looking for contributions from alumnae, particularly those who studied at South Hampstead on financial assistance.

We're proud to extend our partnerships in the local community. Our Debate Hub continues to promote oracy to more partner school pupils; our music students visited our neighbouring Holy Trinity Primary School to lead music lessons; we have established a teacher exchange with UCL Academy and through our links with the Royal Free Charity, students help out on the wards at our local hospital.

Refugee Places

We have welcomed six Ukrainian refugee children to South Hampstead; all places are fully funded, including extras such as uniform, iPads and trips. We are grateful to members of the community for supporting these pupils through donations to our Bursaries and Assistance Fund.
