Fells Community Spotlight: Bob WeggelFrom 2004 until 2009, you may have spied a friendly older fellow with a sturdy spade, rock-bar, and large Gardenway cart mining boulders, laying stepping stones, constructing stone staircases, or building causeways, some of which included crushed stone hauled from the Bear Hill parking area. Winter Updates to Our YouTube ChannelThis month, we are pleased to present the "Rocking in the Middlesex Fells" series, featuring geologist and professor Jack Ridge of the Earth and Ocean Sciences Department at Tufts University. February Events UpdateOur winter hike series continues to be wildly popular! As we close out the season, we have a few spaces still available in our final February Nature Hike: Act fast, because space is extremely limited! Found in the Fells: FebruaryBryan Hamlin’s monthly nature guide: "Almost certainly one will find a lot of snow and ice in the Fells in February. But, those who like to fit in a walk in the early morning or late afternoon will notice some differences compared to early January..." Become a Volunteer: Volunteers are essential to every aspect of what we do! We have a range of opportunities available year round for individuals of nearly any age, availability, and skills. By volunteering with us, you will help to preserve the history, ecology, and beauty of the Middlesex Fells for generations to come. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. Reminder: The Friends of the Fells Board of Directors holds a monthly meeting on the second Tuesday of each month. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing protocols, these meetings are now conducted virtually. The next meeting will be held February 9th at 7pm. If you are interested in participating, please contact friends@fells.org for instructions on how to join us! Help Us Protect the Fells: For more than two decades the Friends of the Fells has worked to uphold the spirit that honors the precious natural beauty and the wildness of the Fells.
