Dear friend, With the vibrant greens and yellows of zucchini and squash dotting our pantry and Delivered Food Boxes, we have been able to nurture the well-being of our neighbors. This is thanks in part to partners like Verdier Farms, who have provided not only zucchini and squash but also cucumbers, cabbage, and beautiful purple green beans. Isley and Elias from Verdier Farms At the heart of our operations lies a core belief: Food is a human right. Everyone deserves access to food – and not just any food – high quality, nutritious, fresh food. Last year 47% of the food Lift UP distributed was fresh produce. 82% of Delivered Food Box recipients report eating more produce because of the food provided by Lift UP. Budgets are tight for many, and food purchasing often takes the hit when tough choices arise. This often translates to fresh produce being deemed a luxury for many. A few weeks ago at 333 Oaks, a four-part nutritional cooking Supper Club was introduced. One resident was deeply moved, mentioning she hadn't seen such a vast amount of produce in a long time. The demand at our pantry has grown over 27% compared to the prior year, and half of pantry shoppers visited us for the first time. These numbers reflect the growing rates of hunger in our community, and they underline the importance of food security work and the partners who make it all possible to keep up with increased demand. Partner with Lift UP to help us keep up with the increased demand! Volunteer to Deliver & Glean Food Lift UP needs delivery drivers to help deliver food to residents in the building and glean food from our partners on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11 am – 1 pm. It inspired our Supper Club Coordinator, Natasha Butcher-Cook, who then shared it with residents at 333 Oak. Thank you for being a part of our journey, and here's to a season of growth and abundance for our neighbors who need it the most! Gratefully yours, Stephanie Barr, Executive Director Food brings us together. |
