Community StoriesCelebrating Logan's local legends The 2025 City of Logan Volunteer Awards were presented on Saturday, May 17 and recognised the incredible contributions of our community’s volunteers. Karlene Marechal was named Volunteer of the Year for her inspiring leadership at Logan City Netball Association, while the Logan SES took out Outstanding Organisation of the Year for their heroic disaster response. Discover the full list of finalists and their amazing stories of service and resilience at the link below. ![]() Kingston teen inspires through skate coaching At just 14, Kingston local Mikayla Sheppard is turning heads—not just with her skateboarding skills, but with her passion for teaching others. Through her small business, Mikayla’s Skateboard Coaching, she’s helping people of all ages learn to skate across Logan. Inspired by her own coaches, Mikayla now runs sessions in parks from Beenleigh to Browns Plains. Her dream? When: Saturday 7 June, 11am to 5pm ![]() PTSD Awareness Day and Community BBQ Beenleigh Neighbourhood Centre is partnering with the Logan PTSD Friendship and Support Group to raise awareness of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and highlight the support available to those impacted. The event will feature face-painting, massages, arts and crafts, live entertainment, a free BBQ, and more. Local service providers will also be on hand to answer questions and share information. It’s a great chance for the community to connect, learn, and show support in a welcoming space. It’s tucked away in an industrial spot in Meadowbrook—easy to drop by if you live or work nearby. No need to book, just rock up if you’re doing it tough or need a yarn. There’s also weeknight catch-ups and peer support, so you don’t have to go it alone. Funded by Brisbane South Primary Health Network. When: Monday - Friday 9am to 4pm ![]() Open Doors Logan Hub - Drop in sessions Open Doors Youth Service invites LGBTIQ+ SB young people and allies to a welcoming and supportive drop-in space every Friday afternoon. Come along for free afternoon tea, explore the community closet, get creative, and connect with others in a space where you’re seen and celebrated for who you are. When: every Friday 3pm to 5pm ![]() Funding OpportunitiesApplications are now open for the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland (CMQ) Program. Eligible organisations planning a cultural event or multicultural festival in the 2026 calendar year, can apply for one-off funding of up to $20,000 under this program. Funding is available for events that engage culturally and linguistically diverse communities and the broader public to build an inclusive and united Queensland. Applications close: 5pm AEST, 24 June 2025 Applications are now open for Round 2 of the 2025 Pride Foundation Australia Small Grants Program. This round prioritises funding for First Nations people and communities, newly arrived migrants, refugees, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Grants of up to $1,000 are available to support grassroots projects that strengthen connection and inclusion for LGBTQIA+ communities. Applications close: 11:59pm AEDT, 14 July 2025 Applications are now open for the 2025 Looking After Country Grant Program. First Nations organisations in Queensland can apply for up to $75,000 to support projects that conserve and manage environmental and cultural heritage on Country. Eligible activities include cultural site management, species monitoring, habitat restoration, fire and erosion control, and intergenerational knowledge sharing. Applications close: 4pm AEST, 9 July 2025 Applications are now open for the Legacy: First Nations Multi-Year Project Fund. This grant provides $150,000 over three years to support First Nations individuals, groups, and organisations in passing on cultural and artistic knowledge from elders to younger generations. Projects must begin after 1 October 2025 and be community-appropriate in design and delivery. Applications close: 3pm AEST, 8 July 2025 Applications are now open for the Bupa Foundation Community Grants. Community organisations have the opportunity to share in a total of $600,000 in grants, aimed at supporting programs that contribute positively to mentally healthy and sustainable societies. Funding of up to $10,000 is available for initiatives that align to one or more of the Bupa Foundation’s focus areas: Healthy minds - building mentally healthy and resilient communities Healthy planet, healthy people - supporting a healthy planet for healthy people Applications close: 5pm AEST, 6 June 2025 Applications will open on 9 June 2025 for Round 124 – Super Round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF). This is Queensland’s largest one-off community grants program, offering up to $100,000 to not-for-profit groups for projects that enhance community wellbeing. The GCBF distributes approximately $60 million annually to support services, leisure activities, and opportunities across Queensland.
