Residents are reminded that Christmas Day (Wednesday, 25 December); Boxing Day (Thursday, 26 December) and New Year’s Day (Wednesday, 1 January) are public holidays in the City of Logan, and Council facilities will be closed. ![]() Community ProgramsCity of Logan's Basketball Slam! ProgramCouncil recently partnered with All Inclusive Activities and schools in Beenleigh to run an 8-week basketball program. Twelve students from Beenleigh State High School and Beenleigh Special School came together to develop basketball and teamwork skills, all whilst engaging in meaningful conversations about disability inclusion. This program delivers on Logan's Disability Action Plan 2023-2025, showcasing how collaborative sports programs create inclusive opportunities for individuals living with disabilities. It is an opportunity to have a cuppa, chat and connect with members of the community. Seniors who are socially connected have a stronger sense of belonging which we’ve seen translate into better physical, mental, and emotional health. No registrations or bookings are required, everyone is welcome to attend Chatty Café. Join one of our cafes and come make some new friends! Enjoy golf, ballroom dancing, and kayaking this January. These activities are funded by the Department of Tourism and Sport’s Active Women and Girls grant program, which aims to boost sport and recreation participation among women. The Logan Youth Action Group (LYAG) in partnership with the Logan Seniors Network and Logan City Council, is pleased to introduce the Seniors Digital Guide. This guide helps Logan seniors get online with practical tips and resources to enhance their digital skills, wellbeing, and community connections. It covers online safety, creating an email address, using Google Maps, making calls, taking photos/videos, exploring community activities and more! Access the free guide online or get a printed copy at local libraries or Council Service Centres. We hope this guide benefits our seniors! Council wants to hear from you! Survey closes: Monday, 20 January 2025. ![]() New Medicare Mental Health Centre opens its doors A new Medicare Mental Health Centre has opened in Logan Central. Medicare Mental Health Centres are a safe and welcoming space to talk to someone if you, or someone you care about, are in distress, or need help finding the right mental health support to meet your needs. You don’t need a referral or a Medicare Card to access the centre – just pop in during opening hours and friendly staff will be happy to help. Where: 91 Wembley Road, Logan Central ![]() Funding OpportunitiesSilverChef Community Grants Program is open to eligible Australian community groups that use hospitality or food services to help disadvantaged or under-served members of their local community. Each $5,000 grant is a 75:25 mix of equipment and cash. The majority of the grant is provided in the form of credit to spend on certified used commercial kitchen equipment advertised on SilverChef’s website. Round 2 Applications close: 31 December 2024 Expressions of interest are now open for the Insignia Community Foundation grants program The Foundation offers grants twice a year in July and December to support impactful programs addressing community needs. These grants focus on financial wellbeing, basic needs, reconciliation, and social inclusion. Eligible programs help low-income families, at-risk youth, and those facing inequalities, ensuring participants are better off after the program concludes Applications close: 31 December 2024 Applications are now open for Round 2 of the RACQ Foundation Community Grant Program. Through its Community Grants program, RACQ Foundation gives community groups, charities, sporting clubs and First Nations Councils the opportunity to rebuild after natural disasters and to prepare for the future with resilience-based projects.
