The festivities kick off at 6pm with a stage program filled with local performers, free kid's activities, a chance for a family photo with Santa and then a Christmas movie screening at 8pm. Our Engineering and Operations team has been incredibly busy updating footpaths and roads in our area to ensure pedestrian safety and improve accessibility in our local area. THROWBACK THURSDAY Alderman Edward Daniel Austin of Homebush Council. Courtesy Strathfield Local Studies Mayor Edward Austin, Homebush Council In June 1925 Homebush was saddened by the sudden death of Mayor, Edward Daniel Austin (1855-1925). A longtime railway employee, he was struck by an engine at the Sydney yards and died of his injuries. Then aged 70, he was due to retire. The Austin family had settled in Homebush from Picton c.1892. Austin was elected alderman in 1908 and served several terms as mayor, including most of the World War I period. The family lived in a cottage named Huon in Marlborough Road. Today, both Austin Park and Austin Avenue nearby mark his service to the local community.
