4 December 2025

Dear Residents,

Yesterday I was delighted to officially open our new exhibition in the Ironbark Gallery titled 'Thinking in Pictures: Chalmers Road School' on International Day of People with Disability. This exhibition is a great reflection of not only to the students' artistic skills but also the dedication of their teachers and the support of their families. I highly encourage you to view this exhibition before it ends on 31 January 2026.

My fellow Councillors and I are looking forward to seeing everyone for our Christmas Carols Event this Saturday, 6 December at Strathfield Park. The festivities kick off at 6pm with a stage program filled with local performers, free kid's activities, a chance for a family photo with Santa and then a Christmas movie screening at 8pm.

Our Engineering and Operations team has been incredibly busy updating footpaths and roads in our area to ensure pedestrian safety and improve accessibility in our local area. You can find out more about which streets and footpaths are being upgraded and the status of each project by clicking here.

As Christmas approaches, I encourage everyone to stay mindful of safety - whether at work, at home, or while you are out enjoying the festive season. Wishing you and your families a joyful, peaceful, and safe Christmas. Merry Christmas to you all.

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.bcai@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999.

Cr Benjamin Cai, Mayor of Strathfield

Mayor Edward Austin, Homebush Council

In June 1925 Homebush was saddened by the sudden death of Mayor, Edward Daniel Austin (1855-1925). A longtime railway employee, he was struck by an engine at the Sydney yards and died of his injuries. Then aged 70, he was due to retire. The Austin family had settled in Homebush from Picton c.1892. Austin was elected alderman in 1908 and served several terms as mayor, including most of the World War I period. The family lived in a cottage named Huon in Marlborough Road. Today, both Austin Park and Austin Avenue nearby mark his service to the local community.
