Dear Residents,

There is only two sleeps to go until Rochester St, Homebush transforms into a fun family-friendly street party for Homebush Vibes! Join us on Saturday the 16th of May from 1pm for an afternoon of live music, cultural performances, free kids’ activities, and more.

Why not make a day of it? Ahead of Homebush Vibes, I’ll be out in the community hosting Meet the Mayor street meetings! From 10-10.45am I will be at Drew Street Playground near Matthews Street, and from 11am-12pm I will be on the corner of Juno Parade and Wentworth Street. Feel free to drop by, say hello and let me know what’s important to you.

Finally, as the weather is getting cooler, our street trees are dropping their autumn leaves, and Council's Street Sweeping team are doing a fantastic job ensuring our neighborhoods are as clean as possible. There are a few eco-friendly ways you can give them a helping hand, which you can check out on social media, while you are there, give us a follow as well!|

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.bcai@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999.

Cr Benjamin Cai, Mayor of Strathfield

The Hunter Estate, May 1926

The first subdivision of the Hunter Estate was offered at auction on 22 May 1926. These lots fronted Glenarvon and Augusta Streets with another two lots on Yarmouth Road (now Wallis Avenue), Strathfield. Most of the lots on the south side of Glenarvon Street were owned by Mrs Mary Hunter of Vaucluse and this is probably where the name of the estate originated.

Some lots had previously been offered for sale in 1923 as the Stratholme Estate. Further subdivision of the Hunter Estate in 1927 offered lots on the south side of Augusta Street, Palmer Avenue and Yarmouth Road.
