The Principal, Council and St Andrew’s College community honour the life of Dr Lindon Michael Harper Wing who passed away on 25th November 2021, aged 78.
Lindon attended St Andrew’s College from 1961–1965. He was a member of the Shooting Team and the Buffet Committee and also served as Honorary Treasurer. Lindon followed in his father’s footsteps to St Andrew’s, as Dr Lindon Worlledge Wing (Fr 1924) served as President of the Alumni Society in
1960.
Lindon was academically brilliant. He graduated with First Class Honours in Medicine from the University of Sydney in 1967 and undertook postgraduate training in Sydney, Oxford and London. He was appointed as a Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacology at the School of Medicine at Flinders University in Adelaide in 1976 and continued to work there for 30 years. He received an academic promotion to Professor in 1992 and from 1998 to 2007, Lindon served as the Dean, after which he continued serving Flinders as the Emeritus Professor.
Lindon’s wide-ranging career embraced clinical medicine, medical education, research and administration at local and national levels. Since its inception, Lindon chaired the management committee of the Second Australian National Blood Pressure study.
Lindon’s parents, Dr Lindon Worlledge Wing and Dr Naomi Wing were both well-known doctors. They lived in Cooma during World War II and the family still has several connections to their hometown.
Lindon had a marvellous personality and even temperament. He will be sadly missed all.
His wife Barbara and the whole Wing family are held strongly in our thoughts and our dearest sympathy is extended to all who knew him.
