7th October 2022A Message from the Head... ![]() It has been a busy week both in and out of school this week - mind you that's not exactly news is it?! On Wednesday and Thursday it was my pleasure to represent Gateways at an IAPS / HMC event hosted in Edinburgh and, in my absence on Thursday, the annual careers fair took place for all pupils in Lower 5 upwards. More about this event can be found in the article below. Then today we had our annual Open Day which was once again very well attended by prospective pupils and their parents seeking places for next September right across the school. Such was the interest in joining Upper 3 next year, we have had to run an overflow event on Monday so I look forward to meeting even more potential new pupils then. Also on Monday evening we have our information evening for pupils seeking a 6th form place next year and applications are welcome from both boys and girls - click here to find out more and of course the link can be shared with anyone external to Gateways School who might be interested in joining our 6th form next year. Also next week Prep have their new 'Gateways Got Talent' competition on Friday followed by a well-deserved half term break for everyone. In the meantime, have a great weekend everyone and good luck to our sportsmen and women departing on the sports tour to Barbados on Tuesday evening. We hope you have a great time and, of course, that you thrash all of your opposition along the way! Safe travels one and all..... - Dr Tracy Johnson - The Careers Fair returns![]() Pupils in Lower 5, Upper 5 and the Sixth Form attended our first Careers Fair since 2019 on Thursday afternoon to find out more about a range of career options and qualification routes. Representatives were available from universities, both in the UK and abroad, apprenticeship providers, the RAF, and those already working within many different sectors. We also had the pleasure of inviting back several “old girls”, Hannah Matharoo, Martha Wood, Gemma Morrell and Alice McGlaughlin who enjoyed chatting about their career journeys since leaving Gateways as well as showing current pupils what might be achieved in their future careers. Experts were available to inform on healthcare careers, business, design, architecture, law, property and construction, theatre, the finance industries, marketing, journalism, the sciences, HR, recruitment, retail, engineering, and architecture. Upper 5 pupils will continue their decision-making, research and career planning during one-to-one guidance meetings with the school Careers Adviser Mrs Sharrock in the next half-term, and she will also be available for the Sixth Form Information Evening on 10 October. Please remember that Mrs Sharrock is available for all pupils requiring further support, information or simply a reassuring chat, concerning all aspects of career choices and options for the future. Pupil newsJayan and Meg shine for Collingham & Linton Cricket Club ![]() Congratulations to Upper 3 pupils Meg Havery and Jayan Passan who collected awards at the recent Collingham & Linton Junior Cricket Club annual awards ceremony. Jayan was presented with the under 11's batting award for his excellent batting performance throughout this season. Pictured above presenting his trophy are the Head of junior cricket & the Under 11’s manager. Meg (pictured in the photo on the left, 3rd girl along from left) was a key member of the U11s girls’ team who finished 3rd in the league in their first season.
