I can’t believe it’s March. I mean, wasn’t it JUST New Year’s Eve? Time has blown by me. Then again, I'm pretty sure this is how I start every newsletter. Like so many of you, I made a few resolutions for 2023, and I am struggling to keep up with all my good intentions. Learning to speak French is going much more slowly than I expected, but keeping up with friends and family is right on. It still feels like such a blessing to be able to be with the people who matter. After the last few years, I don’t think any of us will ever take such things for granted again. As many of you know, if you follow me on social media, I have been writing up a storm, working hard to finish my book for 2024. Even so, I
suddenly have lots of news for you.
The Four Winds is
Coming Out in Paperback!
First off, I’m excited to say that The Four Winds is coming out in trade paperback on March 14th. Finally! I know that’s great news for all the book clubs that have been waiting to pick it for discussion. The paperback edition has lots of cool content and recipes and photos that will enhance your discussion. It was fun to work on these extras. I've even included some personal photos from my research trip. And...drum roll, please. I’ll be going on the road to meet readers this month! It’s so exciting. I haven’t been on an in-person book tour in years, and never for The Four Winds. I was fortunate to do many virtual events for
the book in 2022, but I missed meeting my readers. This month, most of the events are ticketed, and all are in person, so if you can make it, register early. I look forward to meeting you. Also, please know that I will be signing plenty of extra books at each location, so hopefully you can call or email the various stores and get a personalized copy ordered if you can’t make it to the signing. I'd love to sign one for you. And as always, I try to keep signed copies on hand at Liberty Bay Books in Poulsbo, Washington, and Eagle Harbor Book Company on Bainbridge Island. If you enjoy audiobooks, I can share that actress and author Julia Whelan did an absolutely FABULOUS job narrating the story, and I'll be meeting her for the first time at an event in California on March 16th. Here's all the tour scoop...

The Nightingale is the
Reese's Book Club Selection for March
THE NIGHTINGALE has been selected as Reese's latest selection! She shared this about why it was selected. "We were talking at Hello Sunshine about how there is so much going on in the world, including war and the state of the world, and how it's impacting women and children, and the rise of anti-Semitism...conversations that this novel addresses with a real sense of urgency and reality." You can see Reese talking about the selection of THE NIGHTINGALE here on Instagram. Not read THE NIGHTINGALE yet? You can read more about it here.
Television and Movie News
As most of you know, my novel FIREFLY LANE was adapted as a series on Netflix. Season One debuted in 2021 and was a runaway success that hit #1 in the world! And the first half of Season Two aired in December 2022. April 27th is the air date for the second half of Season Two. I am told it will finish the story in the original novel…but will it be in the same way? I don’t know any more about it than you do, but I’m sure going to tune in to watch. Who's having a watch party? People often ask me what I think of the show and the changes that were made, especially those in the first half of season two. All I can really say is that the show and the book are two different things. I was absolutely IN LOVE with Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke as Tully and Kate. Also, Ben Lawson (Johnny), Beau Garrett (Cloud), Roan Curtis (young Kate) and Ali Skovbye (young Tully) were absolutely fabulous. Although much of it veered away from the book, the series is still a story about female friendship through the years, and I love seeing that on television. And the book is always there, on your bookshelf, just exactly as you remember it.
The Nightingale Movie...
The Question I Get Asked
ALL THE TIME!
I wish I could tell you that The Nightingale film, starring Elle and Dakota Fanning and written by the talented Dana Stevens, who wrote The Woman King, is coming out in 2023, but honestly, I just don’t have the answer. As I’m sure you all know, COVID really knocked the project for a loop. The shutdowns in Europe started mere days before filming was to commence. So everything has been in limbo for a while. But in the meantime, it was fun to see this as a "Jeopardy!" clue!

(BEWARE of spoilers...)
I know that hundreds of book groups have discussed The Four Winds. I wish I could be at all your meetings! But since I can't, here's a little help from me to you. To facilitate those conversations, there is both a discussion guide and an enhanced discussion guide that also includes my Author's Note and an interview to give you more background on the book.

Long Overdue Birthday Trip!
In my last newsletter, I think I may have spoken about my "bucket list" birthday trip in Europe. After years of planning with friends and family, it was finally set for spring of 2020. Well, we all know what happened that spring. The Nightingale wasn't the only Hannah production that was shut down. We had to cancel the trip and stow the dreams, but I was finally able to go in 2023. This past May, I went to some of the places I've dreamed of — Spain, France, Italy, England. It wasn't quite the trip I'd planned, because life got in the way for some of the very special people I'd wanted to go with, but it was still absolutely fabulous. Weeks with great friends and family, visiting museums, drinking wine, eating great food, and doing research for an upcoming novel. Below are a few photos from the trip. Yes, I did a lot of eating and drinking! Cheers!
The Biggest and Best News
(in my humble opinion)…
The really big, very wonderful, quite incredible news is that I have finally finished my new book! Woo hoo! Pop the champagne! I am not yet ready to say much about this novel, except that it is another historical novel about some bold, brave women whose story has been lost or forgotten by too many people. I know, I know, it sounds familiar, and it is, because I have become obsessed with sharing these woman-as-warrior stories. I especially want our daughters and granddaughters to know about the women who came before them. I will be releasing title and plot information on my social media and website as soon as I can. I promise! I know that many of you have been patiently waiting. It will be out in February 2024!
Please follow me on Instagram and Goodreads and like me on Facebook, to get all the earliest news about upcoming books and movies. Meantime, please stay safe and be well.
