Dear Friend:

This time of year, hibernation is the inclination. Now that the sun is increasing in the northern hemisphere, activity tends to begin its quiet increase in nature. With good sunlight, we tend to do outdoor tasks during the warm part of the day, while considering the upcoming spring season.

Kapha dominates at present with cold, damp, heavy and dense qualities, whereas in spring, frozen spaces begin to melt. Now is a time of colds, flu, and coughs. Lungs are particularly vulnerable to cold disturbances because they are the principal site of Kapha dosha in the human and animal bodies. The lungs of plants and trees also tend to undergo congealing and slow metabolism at this time of year.

So, be prepared with your favourite immune-building remedies. I tend to use 1,000 mg. of Ester C as needed, a buffered Ph-neutral drying agent to combat excess mucous build-up and help scavenge blood-borne toxins in the form of free radicals.

If a cold or flu tries to begin, right away I’ll go for a dose or two of Ester C and if needed, 1 tsp. goldenseal root powder, a very bitter, very cooling (anti-inflammatory) – classified as a ‘refrigerant’, and very astringent (drying) plant, gathered, cleaned, dried and powdered in October when the plant’s energy returns to its root system.

These properties work for me when taken on the tongue and washed quickly down with warm water.  No colds or flu in years, touch wood! Little use or benefit is in capsules or tinctures I find, as compared to obtaining the most recent crop in powdered form from the herbal supply store.  Who knows how old the plant was at the time of processing?

Others have talked to me about bee pollen, oregano oil, homeopathy, echinacea (has specific affinity for the throat, especially in case of bacterial accumulation), elderberry (astringent, bitter, cooling), neti pot use, steam inhalations or other favoured measures to boost immunity and avert winter complaints.  Whatever are your personal favourites, be sure to have them on hand for immediate use as and when needed.  No use to wait a day or two until the shop opens.  Maintain your gut/brain biome with simple re-balancing measures as needed.

When treating your acute symptoms, you would put aside your chronic, deep-acting herbal program for a day or two to avoid taking too many herbal supplements, and avoid overloading the system with quick and slow acting substances taken together.  Remember to starve a cold and feed a fever. Stay warm and avoid infectious exposures, while building your immunity with warming foods and activities during the daylight and resting after dark.

CONSULTATION FOLLOW-UPS AND REFERRALS:

Now is always the right time to get back on track with your Ayurveda program. I’ve noticed that those following Ayurveda, Meditation, Yoga in their lives do tend to influence others around them to feel inspired in self-care, too.

Distance consultation appointments can be available by email, Skype or telephone. Though pulse reading isn’t possible at a distance, at least a beginning or updating of your individualized self-care program.

Bodywork treatments such as Abhyanga, Turiya Therapy, Shirodhara may be suggested by appointment with younger graduates. I do supervise Panchakarma programs, while treatments are arranged with trusted therapists.

Please note that consultation rates have not increased in nearly 5 years, despite the significant cost of living hikes.  To book your follow-up appt. or to friend or family member who could be benefiting from Ayurveda, please email Jaisri@ayurveda-seminars.com.

TURIYA THERAPY 10-DAY PROGRAM -
LAST CHANCE TO SIGN UP
BALANCE THE DOAHAS WITH
APPLIED MARMA SCIENCE

Spaces are filling now because this class will not be offered again until its upcoming government approval when the tuition is likely to go up. Your tuition can be earned back in about 12 sessions.

Mental health is the need of the day, especially for young people and those in wanted or unwanted life transitions.  To know oneself from within arises from inner stillness.  I’ve come to believe through this work of more than 35 years of clinical practice, that all answers and right guidance lie within.

Simply put, we need to still our mind to realize our own causes and solutions. Turiya Therapy is applied marma (doorways to deeper psycho-biological functions) science for mental health. The techniques help to still the mind and re-direct prana (life force currents). The methods are simple, safe, natural, drugless therapies with a proven record of tools to transform negative emotional states into healthy ones.

This program is suitable for hands-on healers, body workers, massage therapists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, shiatsu practitioners, Reiki graduates, and psychologists.  Included are the techniques for the General Session (returning students enjoy a 50% discount) and the all-important Dosha Balancing Protocols.

Comment from a recent client:  Wow. That was so profound. I feel like I’m coming back from a very deep place of peace within.
                                                  J.T., Massage Therapist.

Comment for a graduate: I took Turiya Therapy in January 2010 with Jaisri Lambert and it changed my entire perspective on life. The depth that Jaisri brings to each subject on Ayurveda & Turiya Therapy is a rare and precious gift. Her teaching style is utterly restorative and profound. She is a true master of this ancient knowledge. Learning from Jaisri also illuminated the importance of learning from a teacher who lives the knowledge & wisdom. Jaisri certainly does and it was an honour to be her student.

(BROADWAY & ASH) JUNE 1, 2019

Ayurveda: The World’s Oldest Mind/Body
Self-Healing Science for OPTIMUM DIGESTION

Join us for this OPEN HOUSE program to explore Imbalances that are informed by and later precipitate disease symptoms. Causes are considered to originate in psycho-emotional and psycho-spiritual disturbances, therefore meditation is considered the first and last medicine, to help re-equilibriate our consciousness.

Balance and imbalance are defined according to the five-element (panchamahabhuta) theory of Sankhiya philosophy, which also informs Yoga, or the science of re-unification of soul and Oversoul. Ayurveda helps to understand and re-balance the physiology, particularly optimal digestion and elimination, while Yoga is principally for re-balancing the mind. The two are therefore inseparable and were always taught together until modern times.

You will learn practical means of restoring your physical health through digestion as the foundation for symptom-free living, such as individualized food guidelines (including herbal science), daily self-care practices and the theory of cleansing and rejuvenation according to ancient Ayurveda, still most valid today.

DATE:          Sat. June 1st, 2019
TIME:           11:30am - 1pm
LOCATION:  604 West Broadway #300, Vancouver, BC

Update: PANCHAKARMA - TAMIL NADU
NOV. 26,‘19–JAN. 6, ‘20

Spots are filling up even now, so I’m advising not to wait until the Sept. 1 payment deadline, instead to reserve your spot and accommodations now. Last year, applicants were disappointed to be declined during the final weeks leading up to the program, as patients reserve from all over the world at this time of year, optimal for westerners. KAVALA OR MOUTH SWISHING
WITH WARM SESAME OIL

Kavala is the ancient practice of swishing the mouth according to Ayurveda, the world’s oldest holistic health science. DinaCharya includes daily morning practices for health and happiness.  Swishing with warm sesame oil after brushing, flossing and tongue scraping with a silver (cooling, Pitta reducing), copper (warming, kapha or ama reducing) or stainless steel (inert, cooling) tongue scraper, helps maintain oral hygiene, strengthens gum adherence and tooth enamel, and most importantly maintains the tongue health, as the tongue can make or break one’s life depending on suitable food and word choices.

Swish once or twice daily for 3-10 minutes by pulling the oil between the teeth and holding the oil in the oral cavity to bath the surfaces. Draw the oil through the spaces between and around the teeth to help remove subtle food or bacterial particles.  Spit the contents into the sink and rinse the drain with hot water.  Massage the gums downward on the top teeth with a clean index finger and upward on the lower teeth to help maintain whiteness and freshness.  Kavala daily practice helps maintain healthy mouth flora.
