If you are a self-managed participant, you can ask NDIS workers to hold a valid NDIS Check clearance. Self-managed participants who need access to the NDIS Worker Screening Database should contact the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. New resources to support NDIS workers with the Workforce Capability Framework The NDIS Workforce Capability Framework (the Framework) is online, with helpful tools for workers and potential workers to assist in understanding a career pathway in disability supports. It also assists workers in knowing how to deliver supports in line with the NDIS Code of Conduct. The Self-Assessment Tool for Potential Workers can help those interested in disability support work understand if they are a good fit. The results are based on choices made by the worker and provides general guidance as well as suggestions about what further training or opportunities can be explored to find a job in the sector or apply current skills to a new role. The Career Options Guide explains the different ways to expand or grow a career within the sector. Workers can explore the different types of support work available, skills required for each role and read real examples of career scenarios. The Framework describes the capabilities or skills that workers should demonstrate, and links to guides and tools which help providers and participants with tasks such as hiring workers, finding training options and providing supervision. You can also view these documents for a deeper understanding of the disability supports sector. The tools, guides and resources can be found on the Tools & Resources page on the Framework website. Want to know more about how an NDIS worker can use the Framework? Check out our top five tips for workers here. We have noticed some applications are taking longer to process. Why is this? Most applications are processed quickly. However, the Screening Unit has sustained a backlog which is delaying the assessment of some applications. An extended processing timeframe is not an indication the person will be issued an adverse outcome. In Western Australia, the majority of workers can work on a valid pending application, with other safeguarding strategies in place. Employers can view a person’s eligibility to work status in the NDIS Worker Screening Database. You can submit questions by emailing NDISCheck@communities.wa.gov.au. We are happy to help where we can, although we may need to refer you to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commissions for matters that fall under their jurisdiction.
