Injury Matters – Falls Report 2025 Injury Matters has released the 2025 Western Australian Falls Report to raise awareness of the growing incidence of falls in WA and the need for urgent preventative action. This annual publication highlights the impact that falls have on the WA community. Amplifying opportunities
WorkCover WA will sponsor three scholarships for WA healthcare professionals to complete the online post-graduate course Compensable Health and Medicine developed by Monash University and the Personal Injury Education Foundation. The course is suitable for GPs, physiotherapists, psychologists, occupational therapists and other allied health professionals and will run from 16 March to 22 May 2026. More information about the course and how to apply is available via our website. Applications close Friday 21 November. Amplifying compliance
A phone repair business has recently been ordered to pay over $200,000 in fines, costs and avoided premiums - one of the biggest fines in WorkCover WA compliance history. Operating in multiple locations through WA, the company employed 78 workers over 16 months without workers compensation insurance in place. And yet, with a single claim having the potential to cost a business hundreds of thousands of dollars the penalties pale in comparison to the cost of an uninsured claim. WorkCover WA is continuing to invest in proactive employer education and prioritise compliance so every worker in WA is covered in the event of a workplace injury or illness. Amplifying collaborationFirst meeting of the APIA Principles and Standards Reference Group
The Approved Permanent Impairment Assessor (APIA) Principles and Standards Reference Group met for the first time in September, bringing together a diverse and highly experienced group of industry professionals and medical practitioners. United by a shared commitment to improving the regulation of APIAs the group collaboratively discussed the priority areas the new Principles and Standards will be structured around in order to best reflect the needs of the scheme We look forward to continuing this important work. The group will meet again in late October, with more updates to follow. Spotlight on difficult conversations with It Pays to Care
This September, the It Pays to Care Team explored how an injured worker's return to work team can improve outcomes through respectful, regular communication. They explored how to use the new Messaging Matters IECCC Framework to help personal injury professionals improve their communication strategies to foster clear, compassionate interactions.
