13 November 2025

Dear Residents,

Council's Engineering and Works department has been busy over the past few months by upgrading crossings to make our local streets safer and more pedestrian friendly for residents and visitors. One such project included 3 new pedestrian crossings in Homebush and Homebush West.

I was delighted to interview this year’s Citizen of the Year, Akhil Verma, and I look forward to receiving nominations for the 2026 Local and Young Citizen of the Year. Just a friendly reminder that nominations close on Friday 12 December 2025, and the winners will be announced at Council’s 2026 January Citizenship Ceremony which takes place on Australia Day.

Lastly, I would like to thank members of the Auburn Police Area Command for meeting with Council’s General Manager, Michael Mamo and myself to discuss safety concerns in our area and the ways in which they are being addressed. I look forward to ongoing collaboration with Auburn PAC and am thankful for their great work.

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.bcai@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999.

Cr Benjamin Cai, Mayor of Strathfield

Help Share the Dignity for Women In Need this Holiday Season

Share the Dignity is a wonderful Australian charity that is devoted to helping women in crisis - women who are homeless, at risk or are victims of domestic violence. Council are proud to support the charity’s ‘It’s in the bag’ campaign since 2018 where our community has generously donated hundreds of bags throughout the years.

This year, the 2025 "It's in the Bag" campaign will run from Friday 14 November – Sunday 30 November. During this time, we encourage the community to first choose a handbag in good condition that you no longer use. Then, fill it with items that would make a woman feel special, pop in a thoughtful note or Christmas card and show her someone cares.

We have 3 collection points to drop off your bag and are open from tomorrow:
🩷Strathfield Council Customer Service
🩷Strathfield Council Library
🩷Bendigo Bank Homebush Branch

MORNING TEA
We are also inviting the community to join us at our Share the Dignity morning tea to celebrate this important cause.

When: 10am – 12pm, Tuesday 9 December 2025
Where: Strathfield Town Hall
RSVP: Bookings are essential. Click here to book.

Thank you for making a positive difference this holiday season for a woman who needs it most.
