Hi there, We are nearly at the end of the year—WOO! Not a person I know will be sad to say goodbye to 2024. A tough one by all accounts for most in the creative industry. Personally, I have kept busy with my new podcast, which I co-host with Harriet Tarbuck, When Harri Met Sally: A Photography Podcast. Also, my latest book and calendar are out now, ready to roll into 2025. Our creatives have also been busy hosting exhibitions, and one has been setting up a new and exceptionally fabulous studio. We met a bookseller and found out what, why, and how to get our books out there, and we welcomed some new members to the creative directory. Enjoy, CONVERSATIONS JULIA JACKSON | ART HISTORIAN Julia Jackson shares with us how her passion for books turned into a career. GREG ELMS | PHOTOGRAPHER ABOVE & BELOW Melbourne-based creative Greg Elms partnered with Jacquelyn Stephens to present Above & Below, at Sofitel Melbourne, a celebration of the natural world through photography and painting. Elms, known for his artistic exploration of the intersection between art and science, captures the transient beauty of Victoria's salt lakes, revealing their abstract, otherworldly qualities from an aerial perspective. Together, their art invites viewers to explore unseen environments, connecting science, nature, and the sublime beauty of life both above and below the surface. Stephens, inspired by her coastal upbringing, paints vibrant underwater landscapes that reimagine the microscopic and aquatic worlds. Her works evoke memories of snorkelling, rock-pooling, and the awe of marine life. The exhibition runs December 5 to January 30, 2025. TESTIMONIALS HENRY NGUYEN | GRAPHIC DESIGNER What Henry had to say about Sally helping him find a full time job... " You have been fantastic during my career transition. I was not involved in the creative industry for almost 2 years and very insecure going back to the design world. You worked your magic and within a few weeks I got my first interview for a design position. However, due to the lack of confidence I did not get the job. Thanks to your support and guidance, just a couple of weeks later I aced an interview and got the job that I really enjoy. Switching careers is really scary but you have really helped me to overcome the fear. I hope someone who is in the position that I was can reach out and get your support. What Cindy Campbell, artist, had to say about working with one of The Brownbill Effect's Photography Assistant... "Thank you Holly Masson for photographing the opening night of my contemporary art exhibition called Pure. The photographs are beautiful, meaningful and create a capture of my Art and the evening. You were able to photograph my event with less than 24 hours notice. You are very kind, friendly and easy to chat to over the phone. Nothing was a problem. You arrived on time and completed the request in my brief for essential images. It was also lovely having you in the space, I feel like you were definitely apart of the evening making it super fun with some immensely gorgeous photographs." I loved the illustrations Charlotte Tiong created for my second book, Leap Into Your Creative Life, so I spoke with Bambra Press, and we decided to collaborate on a 2025 calendar. Pan Pan, who worked with me this year, took Charlotte's illustrations (with her approval) and designed a wonderfully colorful and joyous calendar. If anyone would like a copy, please get in touch.
