Throwback Thursday Parramatta Road, Homebush, 1928 This photo was taken during the widening of Parramatta Road at Homebush but it shows so much more than the road itself. Enlarging the photo provides a ‘snapshot’ of life in Homebush in 1928. Taken from the corner of Powell Street, the Horse and Jockey Hotel would be to the right of the photo. Across the road is the engineering and blacksmith’s business of Alderman George Jackson Iler, established in 1887. Other premises include a farrier, fruit, produce and hairdressing businesses. A sign for Columbia Records, opened in 1926, is in the distance. Road widening, Parramatta Road, Homebush, 15 October 1928.
