Click here Primary Care Bulletin 24 November 2022 Dear colleagues, Today (24 November) is Carers Rights Day, an annual awareness day that raises awareness of carers’ rights, and the help, support, and services available to them and their families. We encourage GP practice staff to ensure that patients listed as carers (paid or unpaid) on their GP records are offered a free flu vaccination along with their COVID-19 booster, to protect themselves and their loved ones this winter. We recently shared guidance and an accompanying letter to support the consistent use of SNOMED CT codes for reporting unpaid carer status in primary care records. Recording this information will allow healthcare professionals to identify carers and, as a result, be able to offer them appropriate support, such as vaccinations. Please join us next Thursday (1 December) at 5pm for our regular General Practice webinar. This month we will be talking about ways to support ‘high frequency users’ through proactive personalised care, plus we’ll have an introduction to the practitioner health service and how to access it. To attend, please ensure you register by 12pm on Wednesday 30 November. Ursula and Kiren Dr Ursula Montgomery Dr Kiren Collison General practice Accelerating citizen access to GP data – SNOMED scenarios and top tips case study New materials have been uploaded to our NHS Futures space to support practices with preparing to enable patients to view their GP health record online. This includes a visual guide to applying SNOMED codes and a case study from Boughton Health Centre on their top tips for successful implementation of records access. Prescriptions Reimbursements A letter dated 22 November has been sent to general practice and commissioners providing advance notice of an important update on the correct process when submitting claims for drug reimbursements to NHSBSA. Following upgrades to payment platforms the use of pooled lists for drug reimbursement will no longer be available. To support practices to make the necessary adjustments NHSBSA will, as a transitionary measure, from October 2022 amend any pooled list drug reimbursement claims to the Senior GP Partner number. These transitionary arrangements will remain in place until 31 March 2023. From 1 April 2023 practices will be required to submit drug reimbursement claims using the GP prescriber number. Launch of Core20PLUS5 for Children and Young People NHS England is launching a national approach to support the reduction of health inequalities for children and young people. The approach defines a target population cohort – the Core20PLUS – and identifies five focus clinical areas requiring accelerated improvement. The original Core20PLUS5 approach launched in 2021 focused on adults. A new version has now been designed to focus on the clinical areas most relevant to reducing health inequalities in children and young people. The five clinical areas of focus will be asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, oral health and mental health. For those who are interested in finding out more, a Core20PLUS5 for Children and Young People webinar will be taking place on 16 December. Making Every Contact Count (MECC) in COVID-19 vaccination settings – call for evidence/evaluation The deadline for the MECC evaluation has been extended until 11 December 2022. Sites that are yet to participate are encouraged to take part in the evaluation, including those that don’t deliver MECC. We would value your support with this work to enable the sharing of insights and best practice to inform the approach for the future delivery of MECC, and its aim in supporting the wider health and wellbeing of those coming forward for vaccination. Further details on how to participate can be found on the FutureNHS ‘Call for Evidence exercise’ page. Supporting our NHS people through menopause: guidance for line managers and colleagues NHS England has launched national guidance for line managers and colleagues experiencing menopause. Three in five people believe their menopause symptoms have a negative impact on them at work and nearly one in three said they had been unable to go into work because of their symptoms. With over 75% of the NHS workforce being women, it is essential that we create a supportive working environment so that our NHS people can stay and thrive through the menopause. The guidance can be used alongside existing guidance and policies and includes practical tips and advice for line managers and colleagues. Workforce data – reminder to PCNs and Practices NHS Digital extract the latest general practice and PCN workforce data from the National Workforce Reporting Service (NWRS) at the end of each month. Practices and PCNs should log into their Strategic Data Collections Service (SDCS) account at least monthly to check and update their workforce details as necessary. The information gathered from the NWRS is crucial for planning new workforce supply, providing support to primary care teams and understanding staff capacity in general practice and so it is critical that the information you submit to NHS Digital about your staff is accurate and reflects any staffing changes.
