We were joined by the Honourable Ron Hoenig MP, Mr Jason Yat-sen Li MP, Stephanie Di Pasqua MP, The Hon. Scott Farlow MLC, Senator Dave Sharma, previous Mayors and Councillors, Consul Generals, Mayors and General Managers of neighbouring councils, and members of our local community. The evening included a short historical presentation by Cathy Jones, musical performances by the Strathfield Symphony Orchestra and select panels from the Celebrating Strathfield exhibition were installed at Strathfield Town Hall. I'd like to thank everyone who joined us and I look forward to seeing many more of you at Homebush Vibes this weekend. The Municipality of Strathfield was incorporated 140 years ago on 2 June 1885. Since 1885, Strathfield local government area has grown from a semi-rural settlement of only 600 people to almost 50,000 in 2025. To mark this momentous occasion, Council Chambers sparkled to kick off our celebrations in style with an Extraordinary Council Meeting on Monday evening. Celebrations will continue throughout the week with this evening's official opening of Council's
exclusive Celebrating Strathfield: 140 years exhibition at the Ironbark Gallery, and Homebush Vibes on both Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 June. ![]() The weekend forecast? 💯% Good Vibes! Strathfield’s much loved active living event the Cooks River Fun Run is returning after a two-year break on Sunday 22 June 2025! The Cooks River Fun run returns under new management by RaceHub Australia with support by Strathfield Council. Get racing and register now to take part in this great family event that showcases the Bay to Bay Cycleway from Freshwater Park to Ford Park. Courtesy Strathfield Local Studies Celebrating Strathfield: 140 Years On 2 June 2025 Strathfield Council celebrated 140 years of local government! Today we mark the occasion with the official opening of the exhibition Celebrating Strathfield: 140 Years in the Ironbark Gallery of Strathfield Library at 6pm. This 1964 image of the Council Chambers is completely recognisable 61 years later. Observant residents will notice that the red pillar mailbox has been relocated around the corner, beyond the town hall on Redmyre Road. The war memorial is just visible on the right. The colourful garden plantings have been replaced with a larger paved footpath. Visit our
