Lisa Purdy, Director, MLS Program ![]() Health Sciences Workshop 2019 On January 26, 2019, the Medical Laboratory Students’ Association, along with students from Dental Hygiene, Radiation Therapy, and Pharmacy organized a Health Sciences Workshop, designed to be an interactive and engaging workshop that gave participants a hands-on experience in several healthcare fields while learning how these professionals work together as a interdisciplinary team. Participants heard first-hand about the important work of these professions, most of which the general public knows little about, before being immersed in an interdisciplinary patient case that served as a common thread, linking these professions together. Participants moved from one interactive station to the next, learning about the role of each profession in managing the patient from diagnosis to treatment, and got a taste of the daily work of health professionals through interactive activities. This student-led workshop was a success, reaching more than 40 participants, from high school-aged to post-secondary students with interest in the health sciences. Evaluations praised the organization of the event, the interactivity of the stations, and the knowledge of the volunteers. Participants left with a better understanding of the roles of each health profession, along with a bag of swag and more information about how they can join the ranks of future health professionals. ![]() TD Insurance Meloche Monnex/AMA Scholarship Every May, the AMA and TD Meloche Monnex team-up to award four physicians with a $5,000 scholarship.
