I hope everyone is enjoying their summer holidays. If you're looking for ways to keep the children occupied, Council has numerous programs to choose from. Additionally, don't miss the wonderful exhibition about the Cooks River at Strathfield Library and Innovation Hub – it's worth taking the time to see. We will be holding our Citizenship Ceremony on Friday 26 January, where we'll announce the 2024 Strathfield Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year. We will also be celebrating at Strathfield Square that afternoon, join us at 4.00pm for a wonderful evening celebrating Australia. There will be an indigenous smoking ceremony, didgeridoo performance, free children's activities, and a special screening of Blueback. Be sure to bring your appetite as there will be food and drinks available from our many of our local shops, restaurants and cafes located throughout the Square! This community event will celebrate our nation, its achievements and most of all, its people. It will include a smoking ceremony and didgeridoo performance, free children’s activities, and a special movie screening of Blueback (PG) commencing at 7:30pm. Council is currently seeking feedback on a new Medium Density Housing Strategy, a project this is aimed at improving housing diversity across our community. We will also shortly be announcing the Strathfield Town Centre: Our Place, Our Future project aimed at reinvigorating our popular town centre. COMMUNITY NEWS Applications for Small Grants now available The Small Grants Fund provides access to small financial assistance grants for local residents or community organisations for projects or activities of community benefit. EVENTS Strathfield St Anne’s Walking Group PUBLIC NOTICES Explanatory Note – Planning Proposal and State Significant Development (SSD) at 11-16 Loftus Crescent, 2 Subway Lane, 9-11 Knight Street and 88-92 Parramatta Road, Homebush It was resolved that Council prepare and publish an explanatory note on its website on the prior planning proposal, and where possible the impact of the current state significant development application. Proposed Traffic Restriction – Intersection of Shortland Avenue and Fraser Street, Strathfield Council will be introducing a ‘No Right Turn’ restriction from Shortland Avenue into Fraser Street on school days during the hours of 8AM-9:30AM and 2:30PM-4PM. Proposed Changes of Traffic Flow – Intersection of Mintaro Avenue and Noble Avenue, Strathfield Council will be introducing a one-way restriction on Mintaro Avenue at the intersection with Noble Avenue that acts in the capacity of a typical ‘stay to the left’ scenario on a two-way road.
