Cargo on the road - Throwback

In August, our cargo team held multiple constructive meetings with Japanese freight forwarders and airlines. As Belgium’s national airport, Brussels Airport is the main gateway to and from Japan.

Both countries share a rich history, but more importantly have a vibrant trade relationship. The team spent a few days in Tokyo to enable more connectivity and foster relationships.

Meet the Brussels Airport cargo team!

The cargo team at Brussels Airport is still growing, and we are pleased to introduce you to our new members, who joined us recently during the past weeks and months to strengthen our team, and drive the implementation of our strategy.

Lien Palings

Lien began her journey at Brussels Airport over six years ago. Throughout the years, she has gained valuable operational insights within several jobs. She started her career in the Optimization & Planning Team within the airport’s operations centre and evolved towards a more passenger-focussed role as Passenger Process Manager, following up on the screening and border process and creating a seamless, hassle-free passenger experience.

In August 2024, Lien switched from Passenger Operations to Cargo Operations. As Operations Manager Landside in the Cargo & Logistics department, her role focusses now on further optimising our landside operations and service offering at Brucargo.

Nico Leener

Nico has over 18 years of experience in logistics, having dedicated much of his career to Swissport, a global leader in cargo handling. During his time at Swissport, he successfully managed large-scale cargo operations, optimised warehouse efficiency, and implemented strategies to streamline processes while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Today, Nico is excited to have embarked on a new chapter as Sr. Operations Manager Airside for Cargo & Logistics. In this role he is looking forward to leveraging his experience to drive innovation, improve operational performance, and contribute to the continued success of the organisation. He is eager to take on fresh challenges and continue his passion for logistics in the next phase of his career.

Arun Luykx

Coming from an international background, Arun has been a regular visitor of Brussels Airport pretty much since the day he was born. Many years after he first entered the airport, he joined Brussels Airport Company as Digital Development Manager within the Cargo and Logistics team.

With years of experience on digital projects, managing SAAS platforms and logistics applications, he aims to bring greater value to customers and stakeholders of the Brussels Airport community through innovative digital interfaces and applications.

Construction update on Brucargo Central

As we enter the fall season, our construction partners are making excellent progress on the Brucargo Central project, keeping delivery timelines firmly on track. Several major milestones have been achieved thanks to seamless collaboration and meticulous planning.

Over two-thirds of the structural work has already been completed, and the first roads are currently being paved. Two main roads are being developed to ensure a smooth North-South connection for cars and trucks while also being fully accessible for cyclists and pedestrians.

Additionally, the parking tower remains on schedule for completion beginning of 2025. Once finished, it will offer 500 parking spaces for employees and 21 parking slots for trucks within the Brucargo community. In line with the growing demand for sustainable solutions, the parking tower will be equipped with an increasing number of electric vehicle charging stations to meet the community’s needs.

We are excited to deliver this landmark project, which will set a new standard for our future cargo and logistics developments. At the current pace, we anticipate finalising the project shortly after the summer of 2025.
