Courtesy Strathfield Local Studies Mooredean/Ercildoune The house at 57-59 Burlington Road Homebush was built c.1891 on lots 39-40 of the Underwood Estate. Advertisements appeared in the newspapers of July and August 1891 for a ‘competent general servant’ for the family of three in residence, likely to have been Charles Coleman, his sister, Emma, who died in November 1899, and possibly their brother, Henry. The house was named Mooredean. Charles Coleman was an umbrella importer in Sydney Arcade in the city. Mooredean was purchased c.1923 by butcher, Arthur Ernest Nichols, who named the house Ercildoune. The property was later subdivided, creating 3 Meredith Street.
