Junior School Notices

TERM 1 WEEK 1

From the Head of Junior School

Dear valued member of the PLC community,

Junior School Sausage Sizzle and Parent Information Evening

At PLC, we are committed to providing an exceptional learning experience for our students and want to ensure that parents are kept informed and involved.

On Tuesday evening, it was our pleasure to host an informal sausage sizzle, enjoying the opportunity to gather as a community. Personally, this was a time for me to meet many new and existing families. Following our light dinner, parents attended informative sessions with each of their daughters’ teachers outlining the year ahead. We understand and value our partnerships with parents. We look forward to working alongside parents to optimise your daughter’s education here at PLC. For those parents who were unable to attend the evening, please contact your daughter’s teacher directly for the communication slides.

Year Level Parent Meetings

During Weeks 1 and 2, Principal, Cate Begbie, and I have been conducting year level meetings to discuss relevant Junior School information and seek feedback. At these meetings we have discussed the recruitment of the Head of Junior School, the Strategic direction of the College, co-curricular opportunities, canteen menus, Physical Education lessons, and school communication. I am so pleased to report that these meetings have been well attended and we have noted your suggestions and feedback provided. We will be running these meetings each semester, but we encourage parents to provide ideas and ongoing feedback so we can continue to deliver a comprehensive learning programme and a joyful Junior School environment for all our students.

Years 1 – 6  Term 1 Swimming Programme

Swimming for each class commenced on Wednesday during the girls’ normal PE lesson. Co-curricular swimming also commenced this week for our Years 3 – 6 students. The girls are really enjoying being in the pool during this warm time of the year.

Year 6 Leadership - Announcing our New Leaders for 2023

Over the past week, the Year 6 students have been participating in the election process for the Semester 1 2023 Student Leaders. The students were asked to nominate themselves (with their parent's approval) followed by a short speech to their Year 6 peers, participate in the voting process, and, lastly, take part in an interview. All the students are to be complimented on the responsible manner in which they have shown respect and support for each other, as well as for the confidence that they have displayed whilst going through the different stages. The Student Leaders for Semester 1 2023 will be announced to the rest of the Junior School at the Year 6 Leaders Assembly on Friday 10 February at 8.45 am in the Swim and Recreation Centre (SRC). During this assembly, the Year 6 cohort will be presented with their Year 6 pin and the new Semester 1 Leaders will be presented with their Leader’s Badges. You are warmly invited to attend.

River and Beach Nature Play Programme

At the conclusion of a very busy first week, our Years 1 and 2 students enjoyed an action-packed afternoon down at the river as they participated in their first session of River/Beach Nature Play Programme.

This exciting new initiative was such a hit with our girls as they explored and interacted in nature.

They are certainly looking forward to the next River/Beach School Day on Friday 17 February and will be joined by the Scotch College Years 1 and 2 boys.
