Hello Dear, Are you enjoying this deepening of winter in the northern hemisphere? Are you finding your quiet bliss within the turnings of time? Ayurveda as the Science of all of Life can so relevantly support our inner and outer lives to balance together, by adjusting to change as it unfolds. For example, I had planned to host a group to India for panchakarma treatment during November and December, however, my Indian travel visa only came through a short time ago, requiring a shift in the itinerary. Here’s the new invitation to join me for this amazing, classical cleansing and rejuvenation opportunity! REVISED DATES FOR PANCHAKARMA IN INDIA *Jan.11-Feb. 26, 2023* Join me for the upcoming dates of Jan. 11 to Feb. 26 for 41 days of treatment. The new deadline to join is Dec. 21, so please do let me know right away if you plan to join this program. Those taking treatment at present have seen remarkable improvements in their health and well-being at only the halfway mark! They’ve expressed they wish many more people could experience the fantastic results of joining, whether for disease management or generalized rejuvenation. What have we learned? The importance of hand and face washing on returning home from outside is still critical. Quarantine is still the number one defence if symptoms develop. Quarantine must be exercised immediately – you caught the bug from someone who did not isolate when the symptoms started and persisted. Sore throat, cough, congestion, malaise, fever, lack of appetite and headache can still develop, often in this order. If left untreated to ‘run its course’, complications may develop and even become deadly. Gut health and digestion are still the core foundation for overcoming infectious conditions, as well as having on hand the needed supplements and herbs. Natural prevention is still advised with daily Ester C (buffered Vit. C for a neutral PH) of 1,000mg for the average adult, half for children under 12, and again half for children under 6. Ester C is a well-documented https://profiles.nlm.nih.gov/spotlight/mm/feature/medicine anti-oxidant and preventative measure, as well as the first line of defence, to increase in frequency if symptoms occur. Vit. C is water-soluble, and the buffering process alkalizes the effect on the stomach and upper G.I. tract, rendering it suitable for the tri-dosha. Smaller children may need the powdered variety, or the tablets can be carefully crushed into a fine powder to mix in warm water. Homeopathy is still favoured for children under 6. Children raised without refined carbohydrates such as sugar will have blood immunity capable of overcoming various viruses circulating now and in the future. Children raised with baked goods, candies, chocolate and ‘treats’ are more likely to succumb. If viral symptoms occur, at the very first sign of infection, take golden seal root powder, which is to be on hand in every household, handbag, glove compartment and carry-on. Early management can nip the infection when it’s only affecting the nostrils, eyes or throat. Place the herbal amount on the tongue and have your warm water ready to swallow it like a pill: 1/2-1 tsp per adult, depending on your weight. Subsequent doses are to be taken as needed, according to the principle of the medicine being ‘slightly stronger than the disease’. Golden seal is very drying against spreading factors, cold in potency against proliferation, and extremely bitter as a broad-spectrum anti-parasitic substance. It is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-yeast. I advise all gardeners to cultivate golden seal or (Hydrastis Canadensis) to help ensure replenishment of stocks for the long term, as it is currently officially endangered. Put it on your spring planting list as soon as you read this, OK? See https://unitedplantsavers.org/goldenseal-cultivation-growing-guide/ *Cautions for golden seal root powder* avoid in children under 7, except under the supervision of an experienced herbalist. Other plants may be gentler for younger children. Consider tincture or fluid extract for younger children. Prevention is always better than management, so young children’s immunity can be developed with well-managed exposures, and herbal and natural measures engaging cause and effect for strengthening and fortifying. It is to be taken as needed only, and not for prevention or for longer-term use, past 10 days. Avoid in pregnancy, due to its very drying property. The amount should be according to weight, immune resistance (ojas) or gamma globulin, specific symptom picture and risk factors. Keep yourself warm with hot teas, fasting, a head and throat scarf, socks and a hot water bottle. Avoid all types of cold exposure such as room temperature water, cold ears, nose, low back, hands and feet. During the warm part of the afternoon, the space can be aired out to help the flow of fresh air from outside for about 20 minutes. Climate change is the primary cause of pandemics and epidemics according to ancient Ayurveda and is likely to persist until the collective consciousness requires a restoration of Earth’s natural timings, temperatures and balance of natural elements. At present, the air element of creation has become disturbed by pollutants and greater fluctuations in global temperatures. The overwhelm of public health care facilities can be mitigated with an Integrative Medical System, emphasizing self-care, prevention and herbal home remedies, to allow hospitals to be reserved for special services, while emphasizing education in prevention and home management of common family health requirements, through Ayurveda knowledge. Together, prevention and management can be improved. HOLY DAYS & RETURN OF THE LIGHT Ancient peoples have handed forward celebrations to acknowledge the winter solstice and its promise of expansions to come. SANKALPA or intentions or new years’ resolutions have been a part of Earth’s perihelion, coming soon on Jan. 4, 2023. Circulating at the farthest distance from the sun brings a feeling of contraction, introspection and anticipation of growth cycles to come. Fallow times of rest and slower rhythms bring their own realizations, less accessible in outward cycles. Bio-diversity, sustainability and protection of space, air, manufacturing activities, waterways and geology are all critical to maintaining peaceful transitions of nature from one season and era to another. What resolutions do you feel inclined to support to honour the five principle constructing elements of our beautiful creation? For me, I intend to reduce the plastification of foods. I also plan to continue using artificial lights minimally, by avoiding their use before sunrise and after sunset, my practice of several years now. I’m also planning for the cultivation of more home-grown vegetables, fruits and herbs. SPRING BREAKTHROUGH TO EMPOWERMENT - AYURVEDA MENTORSHIP PROGRAM *Mar.17 - May 5, 2023* Here are some comments from recent participants in this growing Mentorship Program: ‘Thanks for putting on these seminars - they have been so valuable! Thank you for sharing your time and wisdom and creating this forum.’ - J.G., Ayurveda student. ‘Sharing her knowledge, insight and many years of experience, Jaisri encourages discussion and questions in her warm and engaging manner. This course offered me the extra level of confidence I was hoping for. I recommend it to all my fellow Ayurvedists looking to expand their experience with knitting these ancient principles together into a viable offering. I’m hoping you host another “Breakthrough to Empowerment Mentorship” program soon, as I love the weekly guidance, in-depth discussions, group empowerment, and a safe place where I feel comfortable asking anything I’m uncertain about, and not be judged for asking a silly question. I am honoured and so grateful you brought us all together and look forward to our next session. I've learned so much from you and the others!!! Thank you!’ - J.C., Ayurveda Teacher ‘Sincere thanks for generously sharing your experience and wisdom with us in the mentorship group. I deeply appreciate the opportunity you and Lena (tech support) provided to regularly connect with other lifelong students of Ayurveda. Thanks to Zoom, I experienced a sense of community with new friends; not feel so isolated in my little bubble. Hearing the case studies, concerns, and accomplishments of the other students was enlightening and motivating. Sharing book resources, common concerns and different perspectives was an added plus.’ - K.A., Healer
