Patrol Season Start
On behalf of the Board of SLSNSW, I want to thank all our volunteer lifesavers who will be heading back to the beach from this Saturday to protect the public. The start of the patrol season should be a time we all celebrate, however with so many people still living under extremely challenging conditions and a variety of restrictions, I want to acknowledge that there are those of us who may be struggling and we will do what we can to support members wherever they are. For those who are able to volunteer for patrols at this time, I thank you and I wish you all the best. Stay safe and look after one another. – George Shales OAM, SLSNSW President.
As the weather warms up and the red and yellow flags are raised on beaches, all Australians understand the important role of Surf Life Saving NSW. Teen Hero Saves Dad in Dramatic Ocean Rescue
When 13-year-old Mia Campbell paddled out into the Bar Beach surf with her dad for some after-school board training in May, she could never have guessed that the events which followed would shape her lifesaving journey and earn her the Surf Life Saving NSW Rescue of the Month award.
Off-duty Rescue Shows Coogee Members are Always Prepared
Two Coogee SLSC members have proven that, even outside of their patrolling hours, lifesavers are always on duty following an important rescue in the early hours of Sunday morning, 29 August.
Life Membership Awarded to Dedicated NSW Duo
A deserving duo of Central Coast lifesavers are the latest recipients of Surf Life Saving Australia Life Membership – just reward for their tireless efforts across many decades volunteering within their community.
NSW Youth Athlete of the Year Award
It has been determined that this honour will go to joint winners in 2021. We are pleased to announce that Lily Finati from Nth Bondi SLSC will join Dominique Melbourn from Nth Curl Curl SLSC as co-recipients of the NSW Youth Athlete of the Year. Congratulations to Lily Finati!
Due to the National Award criteria, Lily will represent NSW at the Surf Life Saving Australia Awards of Excellence on Saturday, 6 November.

New SLSA Policies
Today SLSA will be releasing the new Member Protection Policy, Child Safe Policy and Complaints Handling Policy. These resources have been developed with Sport Integrity Australia, and the SLSNSW team will be supporting branches, clubs and members in the coming weeks with specific information, updates and training.
COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility
A reminder that volunteer patrolling members (Bronze/SRC) of SLSNSW are eligible for the COVID-19 Vaccine. Visit the SLS Members Area to find out more and to download the Letter and Eligibility Declaration Form. Members do not need to be vaccinated to patrol.
Westpac Social Change Fellowship
Applications close Thursday 30 September. The Fellowship is an individual professional development opportunity, with ten fellowships worth up to $50,000 each awarded to those candidates who are leading an initiative that tackles one of Australia’s social issues
Dave Winner Fundraiser
Illawarra Branch Life Member Dave Winner (Coalcliff SLSC) is on the road to recovery after a life-threatening accident whilst heading out for a surf at Coalcliff beach early last month. To help support Dave’s rehabilitation, donations can be made via GoFundMe.
Rescue of the Month Award
Clubs, branches and Lifeguard Supervisors are encouraged to nominate teams or individuals involved in any outstanding rescues. Visit the SLSNSW website for more information on key award dates for the 2021/22 season and to access the nomination form.
NSW Office of Sport Surf Club Facility Program
Clubs/branches that wish to apply for the Surf Club Facility Program are encouraged to commence gathering the required attachments ASAP.
Club Lifesaving Equipment Grant
A reminder that the Club Lifesaving Equipment Grant closes this Sunday 19 September 2021. More information is available via Circular 3682.

Normal entries for the Coolangatta Gold close Sunday 10 October. Official Nominations close tomorrow, 17 September.
Grants & Fundraising
Grant funding is an ideal way to obtain equipment, infrastructure or program funding for your club. In support of SLSCs in NSW, SLSNSW provides a professional grant service at no fee to NSW SLSCs through the Surf Life Saving Foundation’s Grant Seeking Unit (GSU). The GSU is a national grant research and writing support unit for SLS entities across Australia.

Beach Safety Awareness Presenter
Deliver beach safety talks and sessions to primary and secondary school students. Applicants must have their SRC or Bronze Medallion, drivers license, WWCC, own vehicle, and a passion for helping the local community.
Early Childhood Beach Safety Presenter
Deliver a brand new beach safety show to young children between the ages of 3 and 6. We urge anyone interested to apply but early childhood education experience and knowledge will be highly regarded. Training provided.
Multicultural Beach Safety Presenter
Deliver beach safety and rock fishing safety talks to community groups and diverse audiences in English and your own language both virtually and face to face. We urge anyone interested to apply but those with a strong knowledge and interest in their own culture will be highly regarded. Training provided.
Australian Lifeguard Service NSW - Recruitment Now Open!
With over 330 positions available across 90 locations, the ALS is encouraging surf lifesavers to apply as a means of offering local employment, building stronger relationships with clubs and providing opportunities for club members to develop leadership and lifesaving skills as:
