Centre for Healthy Communities 2025-2030 Strategic Plan

We are excited to share that our Centre for Healthy Communities 2025-2030 strategic plan is now available. This refreshed strategic plan provides a continued path to foster authentic relationships with a diversity of researchers and practice & policy professionals, develop and conduct new and innovative public health research, and share knowledge to catalyze action, all to help forge a healthy and flourishing future for every community.

Our new strategic plan is reflected in the Centre for Healthy Communities’ vision, mission, guiding principles, and core values. 

New Publication: Evidence-based Municipal Actions to Support People Experiencing Homelessness during Extreme Weather Events

The Centre for Healthy Communities team recently published a policy scan and literature review based on work completed in partnership with the City of Edmonton that recommended evidence-based municipal-level actions to support people experiencing homelessness and precarious housing during extreme weather events. The findings suggest that acting at the intersection of housing vulnerability and climate hazards requires preventive, long-term strategies alongside coordinated crisis management interventions. Meaningful participatory processes with people experiencing homelessness and other interest holders can support strategy development that considers context and a diversity of lived experiences.

New Publication: Municipal Community Safety and Well-being Policies

A new paper highlighting the 2023 Centre for Healthy Communities Innovation Forum reports on the topics, challenges, and calls for action that emerged from this event. Over 130 participants from multiple sectors representing organizations working on municipal community safety and well-being policy or related social innovations attended. They called for all levels of government to establish safety and well-being as a central concern and funding priority, as well as for collaboration across sectors. These calls to action recognize that community safety and well-being issues cannot be addressed in isolation or by any one municipality or agency; instead, a systems approach needs to be fostered and funded to achieve population-level impacts within communities.
