It was several years ago, but I haven't forgotten the advertiser whose website was hacked right after the deadline for their new contest. All the entries were lost. The contestants were upset and the administrator more so.
Winning Writers receives most entries through Submittable, and they have been reliable. Even so, within hours after each of our contests concludes, we download the submission data to our own computers to serve as a backup.
