WHAT'S HAPPENING AROUND THE CITYTerm 1 Fitness Program Active Parramatta's wide range of affordable fitness activities begin at the end of January. Enjoy Yoga, Circuit Training, Outdoor Fitness, Pilates and more. Registrations open on Monday, 9 January 2023 at 9am. The new schedule will be released shortly, so keep an eye out on our page. Junior Lifesavers Program Our Dolphins Swim School and Royal Life Saving NSW are delivering a free 3-day program that will cover skills like safe entries and exits, rescue techniques, lifesaving strokes and more. Each participant is required to undertake a swim assessment to determine suitability prior to enrolment. Spaces are limited! PickleballIf you have not yet jumped on the pickleball bandwagon, now is the time! There are social groups operating at Binalong Park in Toongabbie, as well as West Epping Park in Epping. Whether you're a beginner or looking to play more competitively, there is a session to suit everyone. School Holiday ProgramActive Parramatta’s January School Holiday Program is nearly here. There will be a wide range of free sporting and recreational activities to enjoy including old favourites like basketball, rock climbing, baseball, online trivia as well as new offerings. Registrations are now open! Get Mosquito ReadyMosquitos aren't just a nuisance; some carry diseases that can make you sick. The risk of mosquito-borne diseases in NSW is increasing due to the warm, wet weather. Take extra steps this summer to protect yourself and your family by keeping mosquitos away - spray up, cover up, screen up and clean up! School Holiday Swim ProgramBookings are now open at Epping Aquatic Centre and Macarthur Girls High School Pool. Week 1 begins on Tuesday, 3 January and costs $73.60 per person. Week 2 begins on Monday, 9 January and Week 3 begins on Monday, 16 January and costs $92 per person. Over 55s Leisure & Learning ServiceAn extensive range of social, physical and recreational activities are available throughout the summer. Term 1 registrations open on Monday, 9 January 2023, with classes commencing later in the month. The latest schedule will be released soon! What's On At PHIVEStep inside the Brickman Cities exhibition, featuring LEGO® skyscrapers and cityscapes, or build your own masterpiece! Experience the fun of XBOX gaming, customise your own basketball, get hands on with our STEAM workshops and much more. Multi Sport Program4-12 year olds can enjoy an 8-week program lead by the Australian International Sports Organisation. Filled with soccer, basketball, AFL, hockey, volleyball and more, the program will be held on Friday afternoons in Term 1 at Homelands Reserve in Telopea. The cost is $100 per child or free with your Active Kids Voucher. Active Parramatta VanOur mobile service delivers a wide variety of free health programs around the City like Mums N Bubs Fitness, Adult Fit, Better Ageing activities and more. Registrations for Term 1 open on Friday, 27 January 2023 at 9am. The schedule will be released soon, so keep an eye out on our page. 8-Week Dance ProgramBoys and girls aged 4-12 may enrol into an exciting program lead by instructors from N2Dance. Classes will be held on Monday afternoons at Newington Community Centre in Term 1. Enrolments cost $100 per person, or free with the Active Kids Voucher. The program is for all skill levels! New Year's Eve CelebrationsRing in the New Year with family fun, live music and 9pm fireworks. Celebrations will be held at five locations across the City including North Parramatta, Dundas Valley, Old Toongabbie, Winston Hills and Ermington. Tickets are $5 per person, or free for children under 2 years. Christmas Pool PartyJoin us at Epping Aquatic Centre for a pool party to celebrate the festive season. Held on Saturday, 17 December from 12pm - 4pm, there will be plenty of family fun including a giant slide, free fairy floss, sno cones, DJs, a visit from Santa and more. Entry is free! COMMUNITY CENTRE SPOTLIGHTJohn Curtin Meeting Room: 21 Huxley Drive, Winston Hills, NSW, 2127This accessible meeting room is located within John Curtin Reserve. It is ideal for social gatherings and meetings. The room also offers a balcony that overlooks the sports field and playground. RECIPE OF THE SEASONWatermelon SlushyIngredients: 3 cups watermelon chunks - 0.5 cup strawberries - juice of 1/2 lime Method: Blend all ingredients in a food processor. Strain using a sieve to collect seeds, before pouring mixture in a container. Place container in freezer for 3-4 hours. Remove periodically and scrape mixture with a fork, to form ice crystals. Serve once texture resembles a slushy. Serves 2-3. GRANT PROGRAMSSport & Recreation GrantUp to $2000 is available from our Sport & Recreation Grants for projects that increase participation in local sport and recreation activities. The current round closes on 1 February 2023. Grants for Participating in Sporting CompetitionsReceive financial assistance for competing in state, national or international sporting championships as competitors, coaches or officials! City of Parramatta's Representative Sports Grant provides up to $1000 for residents of the Parramatta Local Government Area (LGA). For those who don't live in the Parramatta LGA, Sport Australia's Local Sporting Champions provides up to $750 for participants aged 12-18.
