Lifesaving World Championships - Nippers Needed For Opening Ceremony

Heading to the Lifesaving World Championships with your family? Nippers are needed to help during the Opening Ceremony! Each National Team will walk the route, and will need flag and sign-bearers to walk with them. The 2018 SLSNSW Midford Board Riding Championships will be held on the 7 - 9 September 2018 at North Narrabeen SLSC. Entries are currently open and close on the 26 August 2018. More information about the event and entry requirements can be found on our website.

Expressions of Interest – Advisory Panel: VET Funding Local Grants Program (Closing Date 6 August 2018)

The closing date for expressions of interest for the VET Funding Local Grants Advisory Panel has been extended to Monday 6th August 2018. The role of the panel is to make recommendations to Surf Life Saving NSW on the allocation of funding following a review of applications. It is a short-term volunteering opportunity ending at the start of the season. We are looking for at least one Trainer, Assessor or Facilitator and at least one Club President or Club Captain. VET Funding Local Grants Program – Closing Date 2 September 2018

Have you thought about what you’ll apply for yet? Any programs or projects which aim to attract new volunteers into Club Education Teams, to increase the diversity of these teams or to retain and recognise existing trainers and assessors will be considered. This is a great opportunity for Clubs and Branches to work collaboratively and to innovate to solve local recruitment and retention issues. The team at Surf Life Saving NSW are available to assist with idea generating, application development and application writing if required. Contact vetgrants@surflifesaving.com.au for assistance.

Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year - Nominations Now Open

Nominations are now open for the Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year, celebrating sporting fathers in Australia. Whether it's a dad who's a Team Manager, helps your local SLSC with funding or support, or simply competes on the weekend, now is the chance to highlight a father who's an inspiration to your local club and community.

The Community Sports Dad of the Year winner will be provided with a $5,000 Rebel Sports voucher to donate to his club of choice for some new gear or sporting equipment. To get involved, head over to sportsdads.com.au/community and explain in 100 words or less why you think your chosen sports dad should be crowned the Community Sports Dad of the Year. Nominations close on Sunday 19 August.

Quality Club Program

The Quality Club Program supports continuous improvement across the organisation, with the aim of continuing to build sustainability within our Clubs. Utilising the three-tiered Quality Club Program, SLS Clubs are able to take the tangible steps necessary to advance their own organisational practices and benchmark against a state-wide standard of excellence.

Congratulations to the following clubs for achieving their respective status for 2017-2018;

Changes to Regulations and Membership Categories

A review of SLSA policies and guidelines is now complete and there are a number of amendments to regulations detailed in SLSA Circular: SLSA Regulations Review and Update.

Membership categories have also been streamlined and the SLSA Membership Form updated. An explanation of the new categories including FAQs has been uploaded to the Members Area. Changes to Membership Categories can be found in Library under Governance and Policies or via the new search function.

Annual Compliance Requirements for Clubs and Branches

Submissions for the Annual Compliance Requirements for clubs and branches for the 2018/19 season are now open. Submissions can be made online here, please read Circular 3559: Annual Requirements for Clubs and Branches to be Compliant With SLSNSW for the 2018/19 Season for further information. 

Nominations for the Education Advisory Committee and the Development Advisory Committee

SLSA is now calling for nominations for the Education Advisory Committee and the Development Advisory Committee. Nominations must be submitted on the prescribed Expression of Interest Form found here be endorsed by the Nominee’s Club. If applying for more than one position, a separate application is required for each role.

Nominations will be appointed by the respective Chair, Education and Development on 27 August 2018.

SLSNSW is inviting nominations for members to be recommended for election to Life Membership of SLSNSW.

To be considered for Life Membership, a nominee must have rendered distinguished voluntary service to SLSNSW for a period of at least 20 years, with the following condition being applied; for service to be considered as distinguished, it must be sustained and of a conspicuous contribution. The Awards of Excellence recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions in all aspects of Surf Life Saving. The awards will celebrate the accomplishments of members, clubs and branches in the 2017/18 season.

Grants & Fundraising

 

Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program

Round two of the Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program is now open. The Program provides NSW sports clubs the opportunity to acquire an AED package for their club or sports facility at a reduced cost.

Grants are available for up to 50% of the AED package in Zones 1 and 2 and up to 75% in Zone 3 (Zone regions are mapped out in the Local Sport Defibrillator Program Guidelines):

  • Zone 1 - $1250
  • Zone 2 - $1300
  • Zone 3 - $1900

SLSNSW is an AED Panel Service Provider and stockist of AEDs in all three zones, therefore successful applicants will be able to purchase their AED directly through SLSNSW by contacting Holly Chave, Academy Business Manager.

The NSW Sport & Recreation Local Sport Grant Program 2018/19

The NSW Sport & Recreation Local Sport Grant Program 2018/19 is now open. The program aims to increase regular and on-going participation opportunities in sport and active recreation.

This year the program will have two focus areas:

  1. Targeted opportunities specifically for women and girls
  2. Overall participation opportunities

Each NSW State Electorate has a total of $50,000 to award under the program. Further information about the program is available on our website.
