With only a week to go until the conference, we are looking forward to a fantastic weekend talking about the future of Surf Life Saving. The conference will have over 90% of clubs represented, and a number of interstate guests joining the SLSNSW movement for the weekend. Thank you to clubs who have supported members in attending this conference, and we are sure they will bring back new ideas, new contacts and a heightened focus on the future direction for their club.

With over 330 positions available across 90 locations, the Australian Lifeguard Service NSW is encouraging Surf Lifesavers to apply to become a lifeguard! The following roles are available:

  • Casual Staff

2018 Interstate Pool Rescue Team

Surf Life Saving NSW is pleased to confirm the 2018 Interstate Pool Rescue Team who will travel to South Australia later this month for the annual representative competition.
A team of 22 highly talented athletes was announced on Friday with the recent State Championships on the state’s Central Coast providing plenty of food for thought for the selectors.

It may have been a stop-start affair, but there were some positive results for the NSW surf lifesavers who showed they have the skill to challenge the country’s best rubber ducky racers at the Interstate and Australian IRB Championships at Thirroul last weekend.

It was a highly successful and enjoyable weekend in the pool for the lifesavers that competed at the 2018 NSW Surf Life Saving Pool Rescue Champions held in the Peninsula Leisure Centre at Woy Woy on the state’s Central Coast.

 

Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year - Nominations Now Open

Nominations are now open for the Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year, celebrating sporting fathers in Australia. Whether it's a dad who's a Team Manager, helps your local SLSC with funding or support, or simply competes on the weekend, now is the chance to highlight a father who's an inspiration to your local club and community.

The Community Sports Dad of the Year winner will be provided with a $5,000 Rebel Sports voucher to donate to his club of choice for some new gear or sporting equipment. To get involved, head over to sportsdads.com.au/community and explain in 100 words or less why you think your chosen sports dad should be crowned the Community Sports Dad of the Year. Nominations close on Sunday 19 August.

Changes to Regulations and Membership Categories

A review of SLSA policies and guidelines is now complete and there are a number of amendments to regulations detailed in SLSA Circular: SLSA Regulations Review and Update.

Membership categories have also been streamlined and the SLSA Membership Form updated. An explanation of the new categories including FAQs has been uploaded to the Members Area. Changes to Membership Categories can be found in Library under Governance and Policies or via the new search function.

Annual Compliance Requirements for Clubs and Branches

Submissions for the Annual Compliance Requirements for clubs and branches for the 2018/19 season are now open. Submissions can be made online here, please read Circular 3559: Annual Requirements for Clubs and Branches to be Compliant With SLSNSW for the 2018/19 Season for further information. 

Little Legends $40,000 Giveaway - Last Chance To Enter!

Macquarie Sports Radio is giving your local junior club the chance to win a share in $40,000!

To win, simply nominate, and then vote for your favourite junior sporting club. The five with the highest votes in each city (Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth) will each win $2,000 to go towards their club. Nominations close 22 July 2018 and voting will be open from Tuesday 24 July, so don't miss the chance to put your club forward!

Nominations for the Education Advisory Committee and the Development Advisory Committee

SLSA is now calling for nominations for the Education Advisory Committee and the Development Advisory Committee. Nominations must be submitted on the prescribed Expression of Interest Form found here be endorsed by the Nominee’s Club. If applying for more than one position, a separate application is required for each role.

Nominations will be appointed by the respective Chair, Education and Development on 27 August 2018.

SLSNSW is inviting nominations for members to be recommended for election to Life Membership of SLSNSW.

To be considered for Life Membership, a nominee must have rendered distinguished voluntary service to SLSNSW for a period of at least 20 years, with the following condition being applied; for service to be considered as distinguished, it must be sustained and of a conspicuous contribution. Download the Life Membership nomination form.

2018 SLSNSW Awards Of Excellence

The Awards of Excellence recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions in all aspects of Surf Life Saving. The awards will celebrate the accomplishments of members, clubs and branches in the 2017/18 season.

Grants & Fundraising

 

Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program

Round two of the Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program is now open. The Program provides NSW sports clubs the opportunity to acquire an AED package for their club or sports facility at a reduced cost.

Grants are available for up to 50% of the AED package in Zones 1 and 2 and up to 75% in Zone 3 (Zone regions are mapped out in the Local Sport Defibrillator Program Guidelines):

  • Zone 1 - $1250
  • Zone 2 - $1300
  • Zone 3 - $1900

SLSNSW is an AED Panel Service Provider and stockist of AEDs in all three zones, therefore successful applicants will be able to purchase their AED directly through SLSNSW by contacting Holly Chave, Academy Business Manager.

Sydney Water Local Community Grants

The Sydney Water Local Community Grants is now open and closes on Friday 27 July 2018.

Grants of up to $1,000 are available to support grassroots community organisations in the areas of Sydney, Illawara and the Blue Mountains.

The grant can be used for reusable water bottles, water refill stations, suitable equipment and/or training. Further information on how to apply and application criteria can be found on the SLSNSW website.
