QLDC Winter Road Report - 6 July 2023

Mōrena Queenstown Lakes,

It's a chilly start to your Thursday.  Here's what to expect out on the roads this morning:

Crown Range Road - a layer of fog has caused ice to form on the Queenstown side of the summit.   This has been gritted but please take extra care.

Cardrona Valley / Wānaka area - dry roads and cold temperatures.  CMA (the stuff we spray to help stop ice forming) has been applied on Cardrona Valley Road.

Whakatipu Basin - the crew is reporting a mix of dry and damp roads - expect ice to form around daybreak when the temperatures drop further.

Fernhill area / Glenorchy Road - also dry roads and cold temperatures.  Some known risk areas have been gritted so please take care.

Traveling further afield - the highway crew tell us CMA has been applied over the Lindis Pass and Kawarau Gorge.

Remember slow and steady wins the race and gets you to work (or play) safely!  Always take extra care in shady or damp areas as there's a good chance they're icy in Winter.

Right, I'm off for a much needed coffee - hope you all have a great day.  If you spot any issues on the road today, give us a call on 03 441 0499 and let us know.

Rebecca

DISCLAIMER:  Road conditions during winter can change at any time. Our advice is to always carry chains, slow down and drive to the conditions. We will always do our best to give you the most up-to-date conditions for key commuter roads, but we can't drive every road in the district before 7.00am.  Remember, if it's snowing, this slows us down too and these reports should never replace common sense.
