September is: National Guide Dog Month Watch this video from the Guide Dog Foundation on the history of Guide Dogs and the 75th Anniversary of the Foundation happening this year. "As a CODA (child of deaf adults), Ruby is the only hearing person in her home. When she discovers a passion for singing, Ruby must choose between family obligations and her dreams." In NPR's review of the movie (both accessible via written article and audio-recorded) they make sure to write, "Notably, the deaf characters are all played by deaf performers thanks to the behind-the-scenes efforts of the movie's best known actor, Marlee Matlin. She plays Ruby's mom, Jackie, while Troy Kotsur plays her dad, Frank." BC Career Center The DSO has partnered with the Career Center to provide tips and resources for our students with disabilities who are entering into the job or internship search process, considering applying to graduate school, or simply seeking guidance regarding career direction. Make an appointment to speak with a career coach! The Career Center offers a one-credit hybrid course designed for students who are exploring their career interests. You will dive into concepts featured in the best-selling novel Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Loved, Joyful Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans and learn strategies to achieve meaningful professional goals. What is Lime Connect? Lime Connect is a global not-for-profit organization that's rebranding disability through achievement. We do that by attracting, preparing, and connecting high potential university students and professionals who happen to have all types of disabilities for careers, scholarships, and internships. Lime Connect Information Sessions Learn more about Lime Connect programs, including the Lime Connect Fellowship Program, scholarships, and full-time and internships available with our corporate partners. You'll also gain tips related to "whether, when and how to disclose a disability" and build a community of peers - like-minded high achieving professionals and students who have disabilities. Applying is an excellent way to find an internship or permanent position at federal agencies; explore careers in the federal service; gain interviewing experience.
New and Notable The Boston College Council for Students with Disabilities is excited to be back and are beginning to recruit new members for this school year. Below is an image with a QR code and link to the membership application. If you are interested in learning more about CSD, follow them on Instagram or send them an email! Additionally this year the Council for Students with Disabilities is starting a support group designed for students with disabilities.
