WHAT'S HAPPENING AROUND THE CITYTerm 3 Fitness ProgramActive Parramatta's exciting range of free and affordable fitness activities launches again next term. The Program will feature both online and face-to-face activities. Registrations open on Monday, 27 June 2022 at 9am. The latest schedule will be released shortly, so keep an eye out on our page. Parramatta's Aquatic & Leisure CentreWith construction of the new centre now in full swing, the community has an opportunity to help name several spaces, rooms, services and pools. Burramatta NAIDOC DayJoin the family friendly celebration in Parramatta Park on Sunday, 10 July 2022 with children’s workshops, market stalls, food, performances by Budjerah, Kobie Dee, The Merindas and more. Healthy Lunch Box BuilderCancer Council has developed a virtual tool that makes building a healthy and balanced lunchbox easier. Handy tips and nutritious recipe ideas are also included in this free resource. School Holiday ProgramActive Parramatta’s Winter School Holiday Program is around the corner. There will be a wide range of free activities including archery, tennis, AFL, BMX biking, pickleball, family-friendly fitness classes and so much more. Registrations open at 7pm on Monday, 20 June 2022. Over 55s Leisure & Learning ServiceChoose from an extensive range of exciting and enjoyable physical, recreational and social activities. Term 3 registrations open on Monday, 27 June 2022 with classes commencing in the middle of July. The new schedule will be released shortly. Play Activities for Babies & ToddlersA creative range of play activities and ideas are available for parents and guardians through Playgroup NSW. These fun activities are recommended for cognitive, gross motor and fine motor development, and can be done at home. Free Wellbeing WorkoutIt is not too late to join Mood Active's virtual program that teaches participants how to start and sustain an exercise routine. Suitable for those who can participate in light exercise, the instructor can modify movements for older adults and those living with disabilities. Sportsground Strategy Action Plan (SSAP)The recently adopted SSAP provides a detailed roadmap for the City regarding the provision of sportsgrounds, in a networked approach, to meet the existing and future community needs. Among the most significant initiatives outlined are the development of a Sportsground Allocation Policy and improvements to 26 existing sportsgrounds. It was developed through extensive public consultation, including input from the local sporting community. Implementing the recommendations will support our growing community to live active and healthy lives. COMMUNITY CENTRE SPOTLIGHTDundas Park Meeting Room: Dundas Park, Yates Avenue, Dundas Valley NSW 2117This meeting room is located in the pavilion at Dundas Park. RECIPE OF THE SEASONBaked Berry OatmealIngredients: 1 cup rolled oats - 2 eggs - 1 tsp baking powder - 0.5 cup milk - 1 tsp vanilla - 1 ripe banana - pinch sea salt - handful frozen berries - maple syrup Method: Place all ingredients (except berries and maple syrup) into a blender. Blend until smooth. Gently stir in berries. Pour mixture into greased ramekins. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 25 minutes, or until risen and golden. Top with maple syrup. Serves 2. GRANT PROGRAMSSport & Recreation GrantUp to $2000 is available from our Sport & Recreation Grants for projects that increase participation in local sport and recreation activities. The current round closes on 3 August 2022. Grants for Participating in Sporting CompetitionsDid you know that you can receive financial assistance for competing in state, national or international sporting championships as competitors, coaches or officials? City of Parramatta's Representative Sports Grant provides up to $1000 for residents of the Parramatta Local Government Area (LGA). For those who don't live in the Parramatta LGA, Sport Australia's Local Sporting Champions provides up to $750 for participants aged 12-18.
