ON THE DDD DASHBOARD:
New fixes, features, work in progress |
#1. The issue of "Unknown Term Promotion status" displaying in certain school's 2025 Term 1 final data submissions, has been resolved and information is now reflecting correctly.
#2. Individual learner information in certain data downloads (specifically for the Learner Chart and FET Promotion Profiles reports) is currently paused for 2024 Term 2, Term 3, and Term 4, following some back-end software updates. The DDD team is addressing the issue as a matter of urgency.
#3. The new Program Monitoring function will roll out in phases, from early May. This will enable EMIS officials to track dashboard usage and support data submissions more efficiently. |

HOW THEY OUTPERFORMED THE NATIONAL TARGET |
District officials have the power to trigger real change, as shown by officials in KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga last year. After being part of DDD’s District Support Initiative, six out of seven participating districts exceeded the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) pass rate target of 85% (compared to only one out of seven in the previous year).
Their success didn’t stop there:
- Overall the districts experienced a 6,4% improvement in NSC results.
- They also achieved a 4-5% increase in the number of bachelor passes; and
- They saw a substantial drop (up to 45%) in learners finishing the year in level 1 (0-29%) and up to 18% more finishing the year in level 4 and upwards.
The District Support Initiative is one of three undertaken by DDD in 2024, and it focused on capacitating district officials with DDD Dashboard and intervention support training.

SPOTLIGHT ON LEADERSHIP: Principal Michael Mutsharini |
At John Orr Engineering School of Specialisation in Gauteng, Principal Michael Mutsharini is more than just a leader. He’s a humble force, driving excellence. With close to 900 learners and 44 educators to manage, he is also widely respected for his calm leadership and clear vision for the school’s future.
As a champion of data-informed decision making, Principal Mutsharini actively uses the DDD Dashboard to keep a finger on the school’s pulse.
"Data is very important for us as a school, in terms of decision making,"; he says. "We use it to inform the direction of our school and we see it having a great impact in terms of our learners' performance."
Thanks to this strategic approach, John Orr achieved a 92,4% NSC pass rate in 2024, up from 91,4% in 2023 and 76,8% in 2022. This steady upward trend reflects the impact of data-driven leadership and a school culture that is focused on continuous improvement. Principal Mutsharini’s leadership reminds us that when data and hearts come together, real transformation takes place. |
