$32.1 Billion to Help Women, Newborns, Young Children and Adolescents

A massive $32.1 billion of funding to help women, newborns, children and adolescents has been pledged to restore essential health, nutrition and social services lost because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pledges are highlighted as part of an expanding campaign coordinated by PMNCH, based on a global Call to Action to protect women, children and adolescents in the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.

COP 26 Event: Building Adolescents' Resilience to Climate Change

PMNCH, in collaboration with the International Federation of Medical Students Association (IFMSA), YOUNGO and Tremendas Collaborative Platform, will host an official side event at the COP26 Health Pavilion. Under the umbrella of the Call to Action for Adolescents, the event will bring together global leaders,  youth activists and health professionals to draw attention to the importance of prioritizing adolescents' well-being in climate adaptation and incorporating an adolescent well-being lens to the COP26 Health Programme.

COP26 Health Pavilion

The COP26 Health Pavilion will offer a rich 2-week programme of over 60 events, showcasing evidence, initiatives and solutions to maximize the health benefits of tackling climate change across regions, sectors and communities. Most events will be live-streamed, and recordings will be made available here.

 

Commentary: Adolescents have not been well served by responses to the pandemic and the climate crisis

Inter-Parliamentary Union: Forging Partnerships and Parliamentary Action

This month, I’m proud to spotlight a long-time member of PMNCH, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU),  the global organization of national parliaments, working with parliaments and parliamentarians to articulate and respond to the needs and aspirations of the people. The strong impact of the IPU will be felt throughout the month of November, first in Glasgow during the COP26, where they will adopt an outcome document that urges all parliaments to maximize their legislative power in reducing the risks of climate change. Following COP26, the IPU is convening its 143rd Assembly from  26 to 30 November with an extensive focus on democracy and human rights, including a resolution on combating online child sexual exploitation and abuse.

PMNCH statement on U.S. Administration's National Strategy to Advance Gender Equity and Equality

PMNCH applauds the recent announcement of the U.S. Administration’s first-ever national strategy to advance gender equity and equality in the U.S. and globally. The Biden-Harris Administration’s gender strategy identifies health as one of ten interconnected policy priorities and addresses sexual and reproductive health and rights, maternal health, and adolescent health and well-being. These are priority areas for PMNCH as outlined in our 2021-2025 Strategy to close gender gaps and move toward a world with equal opportunity for all people.

Small Grants Recipients to Support Advocacy and Accountability for COVID-19 

PMNCH, Management Sciences for Health, and the Global Financing Facility are pleased to announce the recipients of the second round of funding to support coordinated civil society and youth advocacy for ensuring service continuity for women's, children's, and adolescents' health in response to COVID-19. The 2021-2022 grants have been awarded to civil society organizations from 12 countries.

Call for Nominations for PMNCH Board Vice-Chair Under 30 

PMNCH is calling for nominations for the Board Vice-Chair under 30. The Vice-Chair position is an opportunity for a young person to lead the way in ensuring diverse adolescents and youth are meaningfully engaged, their voices heard within the highest governance structure of PMNCH, and that issues related to adolescents and youth are given adequate visibility and attention. 
The position is only open to PMNCH partners who are under 30 years old.

The deadline has been extended to 31 December and we look forward to receiving your nominations. More here

 

Shape the Health Data Governance Principles

Transform Health, a global coalition of organizations–including founding member PMNCH, invites feedback on a set of Health Data Governance Principles. Grounded in UHC, the Principles bring a human rights and equity lens to digital health and support sustainable and resilient public health systems. You are invited to take part in the public consultation, which runs from 27 October to 3 December.

 

World Prematurity Day - Twitter Chat

On 17 November, PMNCH will join the global community to mark World Prematurity Day (WPD), one of the most critical days in the year, to raise awareness of the challenges and burden of preterm birth globally. This year's theme is Zero Separation. Act now! Keep parents and babies born too soon together. A Twitter chat will take place on 16 November ahead of WPD to draw attention to the impact of preterm birth.
