New Data Released: Economic Impact of COVID-19 on Arts & Culture Sector New data released today by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Bureau of Economic Analysis provide insights into the impact on the arts and cultural sector by COVID-19. The Arts and Cultural Production Satellite Account tracks the annual economic impact of arts and cultural production from 35 industries, both commercial and nonprofit. These data describe the national and state-level contributions of the arts and cultural sector to the nation’s gross domestic product in 2020, the first year of the pandemic. “While arts and cultural industries and workers nationwide have sustained heavy losses, the sector continues to play an outsized role in the U.S. economy—as the new data demonstrate,” said NEA Chair Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson. “The NEA is committed to participating as a key partner in the recovery of this sector, recognizing not only its economic value, but also the arts’ capacity to transform the lives of individuals and communities in other ways, contributing to health and well-being, and overall resilience.” Click here to read the full article and research. New Data Released: Creative Advantage's Community Arts Partnership Report In March 2020, schools across the nation closed their doors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Community Events Virtual Artist Talk with Ezra Wube presented by Wa Na Wari Ezra Wube (b. 1980, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) is a cross disciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Through autobiography, his work references the notion of past and present, the constant changing of place, and the dialogical tension between "here" and "there". Fire Country presented by The Shattered Glass Project During the largest forest fire in the history of Washington state, a tech giant’s best-laid schemes come to a screeching halt. A CEO is missing in the wilderness, and the man who saw him last speaks only in riddles. As the fires loom on the horizon, a young biologist tracks a lone wolf searching for answers. Artists of Color Expo & Symposium presented by Shunpike Artists of Color Expo & Symposium is a BIPOC-led, community-curated program featuring art exhibits, live performances, presentations, workshops, film screenings, artist talks, and artist opportunity tables. Enhancing Mental Focus and Wellbeing presented by SU Learning Assistance Programs Having a mind is hard, but it can get easier with practice. Deciding to have a new mindset or attitude doesn't usually work; instead, you can learn new, science-backed mental strategies to help manage your thinking. Struggles with procrastination, self-criticism, and worrying often reflect mental habits, rather than unchangeable parts of your personality. You are capable of building more attention, mental control, motivation, and self-encouragement, and you can learn specific skills to help you make lasting mental changes. This workshop will be facilitated by clinical psychologist and psychology professor, Dr. Rachel Turow. Winter Northwest by SPACE at Magnuson Magnuson Park Gallery, a division of the Sand Point Arts and Cultural Exchange (SPACE), is pleased to present Winter Northwest, Fine Art Wildlife Photography by Mukul Soman. Winnie The Pooh presented by StoryBook Theater Join Winnie the Pooh (played by Buddy Todd, MFA'21) and his forest friends as they explore, experience and exclaim the importance of friendship and how to work together in the Hundred Acre Wood. Anthropocene: Artist Talk + Reception by METHOD Gallery Anthropocene looks back to the Industrial Revolution and the ordinary people who, often unwittingly, launched and participated in practices that created the environmental catastrophes we see today, from historic floods and wildfires to deforestation and extinction events. What has changed since then? How different are they from us? What did they know and when did they know it? #DoTheWork Arts Leadership Formation Part of our commitment, as Arts Leaders, is to remain open and teachable in the formation of our leadership posture and approach.
