5 February 2026

Dear Residents,

Children's learning programs for 2026 have officially kicked off at Strathfield Library and Innovation Hub! Our staff have missed welcoming you and your family to Baby Bounce, Toddler Time and more. Visit the website to check the dates and times for all your favourite Library programs.

You may have noticed your local area looking more colourful with the installation of art and plants. Homebush West is home to a new mural reflecting the area’s unique character. The artwork is by local artist Squid Morgan and draws inspiration from the area’s vibrant market culture and shopping village atmosphere! Additionally, Churchill Ave in the Strathfield Town Centre is looking greener with the tired concrete bases updated with lush plants. There are many more projects on the horizon! Visit the Current Projects page on our website to see what's happening in your neighbourhood.

This evening (Thursday 5 February) I will be officially opening our latest art exhibition at the Ironbark Gallery titled Spinning the Spirits: Wai Han Lee. Wai Han’s exhibition explores traditional textile practices that are deeply interwoven with human innovation, creativity, and resilience. All materials were sourced locally, including wool fleece and native plants. The works embrace a wide range of traditional, hand-based techniques—carding, spinning, felting, natural dyeing, and stitching—to investigate the transformation of raw fibre into textile art. Check it out from 6 February – 29 March 2026.

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.bcai@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999.

Aerodome 89 Abbotsford Road, Homebush

House names are fascinating. When this house was built for Cassie and Ernest Lundie, by Cassie’s uncle, A.E. Gazzard in c.1923, it was given the somewhat unusual name of Aerodome. Cassie’s brother, William (Billy) Ewart Hart, was Australia’s first licensed pilot and on 30 November 1911 Cassie became the first Australian-born lady to fly with an Australian pilot when she bravely went for a spin in Billy’s biplane at Victoria Park Racecourse in Zetland. The flight received press coverage as far away as Western Australia. The Lundies sold the home in 1928 to Sidney Thompson who renamed it Widgewong.
