The cart was splintered and McKenzie, from Broughton Road, was pinned under his dead horse. Badly injured, he was extricated by station master, Henson and despatched to hospital in Sydney by the same train. A horse-drawn ambulance met him at Redfern Station. But the restive horse, commandeered from a nearby cab driver, bolted causing further collisions and injuries in the busy city.
