Weekly update 4 June 2024

Kia ora koutou,

Welcome to our weekly update report. We want to keep you informed of our work and answer your questions. We'll include lodgement queue processing times and volumes.

Change to requirements for offal products from Australia

MPI is amending the import conditions for offal imported under the following import health standards:

  • Frozen Raw Kangaroo Meat for Pet Food from Australia, FODKANIC.AUS, dated 31 March 2000
  • Frozen Animal By-products (Derived from Bovines, Goats, Horses, Pigs and Sheep) for Further Processing from Australia, INEPHPIC.AUS, dated 28 January 2000
  • Raw Pet Food (Derived from Cattle, Deer, Goats, Horses, Sheep) for Further Processing into New Zealand from Australia, FODPETIC.AUS, dated 28 January 2000

The import conditions for offal imported using these standards is changing from freezing to minus 18°C, to freezing to minus 20°C for at least 2 days. New Zealand is free from hydatids (Echinococcus granulosis), and this change in temperature is required to meet our reporting requirements to the World Organisation for Animal Health.

We are able to discuss management of non-compliant shipments with additional measures on arrival in New Zealand if required. Please contact the Animal Imports team (animal.imports@mpi.govt.nz) if you would like to discuss this further.
