PMNCH at the 75 World Health Assembly: Recap 

Members of PMNCH attended the 75th World Health Assembly, which took place in Geneva from 22-28 May 2022. This first in-person Assembly since the COVID-19 pandemic brought together delegates from Member States, partner agencies, representatives of civil society and WHO experts to discuss current and future priorities for public health issues of global importance. The theme of the Assembly was ‘Health for peace, peace for health’, which encapsulated the need to strengthen preparedness for and response to health emergencies with several agenda items concerning women’s, children’s and adolescents’ heath. Lives in the Balance: Delivering Commitments in Humanitarian and Fragile Settings

 

On the margins of the 75th World Health Assembly, PMNCH and the CORE Group hosted the 4th Lives in the Balance Summit. The virtual event attracted registrants from 92 countries, with more than 70% of those based in low- and middle-income countries, and served as a platform to bring attention to the PMNCH Call to Action on COVID-19 campaign.

Call for Applications: Become a member/leader of the Global Forum for Adolescents Sub-Committees! 

The Global Forum for Adolescents in October 2023 will be the world’s largest ever event for adolescents. If you are passionate about adolescent health and well-being, apply to become a member or a co-chair of one of the three sub-committees (Digital Experience, Partnerships and Communications, and Programme) that will drive the planning and implementation of the Forum. Young people (15-29 yrs) are strongly encouraged to apply. Application deadline: Friday, 24 June, 23:59 CET.

Request for case studies to showcase meaningful adolescent and youth engagement (MAYE)

PMNCH seeks examples of good and promising practices on meaningful adolescent and youth engagement (MAYE) to be incorporated into a practical guidance resource. This guidance resource, currently under development by PMNCH with the support of the Torchlight Collective, will be available to organizations and stakeholders who have signed the MAYE Global Consensus Statement, and other interested partners.

PMNCH 2021 Annual Report: Committing to progress, equity and a better future for women, children and adolescents

 

This report highlights the work done by PMNCH in 2021 to keep women, children and adolescents at the centre of response and recovery efforts. It showcases advocacy activities in countries to drive more responsive and equity-enhancing policies, financing and service delivery. Read the report here.

Multistakeholder Consultations on Programming to Promote Adolescent Well-Being: Summary report

This summary report presents learnings from eight regional multistakeholder consultations hosted by PMNCH, WHO and UN H6+ partners to reach a broad agreement on policies and programming to promote adolescent well-being. It summarizes critical issues raised across the consultations, the knowledge gaps and challenges, and offers a  way forward. Read it here.

 

G7 condemns sexual and gender-based violence

G7 member-states have highlighted the need to strengthen international collaboration to tackle sexual and gender-based violence. Rising global incidence, including in conflict settings and among refugee populations, has been underlined by G7 Foreign Ministers and Development Ministers at their respective meetings in Germany this month and echoed in a communique from a meeting on 18 May.  Read here.

 

The Impact of COVID-19 on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights: Youth-led Perspectives and Solutions for a Gender-Equal World 

This first-of-its-kind study from Women Deliver highlights the experiences, insights, and perspectives of adolescents and youth on the gendered impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on SRHR.  Read it here.

Call for concept notes for issuing small grants to improve sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (SRMNCAH)

CORE Group will issue small grants to engage with eligible non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations, especially those led by women, adolescents, and people living with disabilities, in a collaborative effort to address key barriers to improving SRMNCAH services and outcomes in Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Nepal.

Civil Society Engagement Mechanism for UHC2030 (CSEM) Advisory Group: Call for nominations

Nominations are invited for candidates to fill seven open positions on the Advisory Group of the Civil Society Engagement Mechanism for UHC2030 (CSEM). The CSEM Advisory Group fosters civil society representation in UHC2030, links the global and national levels, conveys constituency priorities based on national inputs, and acts as a technical hub.

Stem the sharp decline in health worker numbers by prioritizing retention, recruitment and competency-based education in humanitarian settings

Members of the PMNCH Health-Care Professionals Associations Constituency offer solutions to address historical and structural reasons for health worker shortages stemming from decades of underinvestment and failure to prioritize the roles and needs of health workers within health systems.  Read here.

 

Women, children, and adolescents living in humanitarian and conflict contexts must not be forgotten.

Inter-agency Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crisis:  Expanding access to sexual and reproductive health in crises

As we mark World Refugee Day on 20 June, I would like to highlight the important work of the Inter-agency Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crisis (IAWG). IAWG is an international coalition of organizations and individuals working collectively to advance comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) as part of the sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health continuum in humanitarian settings. IAWG seeks to improve policies, strengthen practice, mobilize resources, and improve accountability.

Many PMNCH partners, including the International Rescue Committee (IRC), UNICEF, Family Planning 2030 (FP2030), Jhpiego and others are part of IAWG’s mission to issue evidence-based technical guidance, standards, and tools to inform SRHR service provision in humanitarian settings.
