Senior School NoticesTERM 4 WEEK 5
Dear valued member of the PLC community,
High School Musical Jr.Tonight is the opening night of our much anticipated musical, High School Musical Jr. We hope to see our community support our talented students and come along to see this performance. Connections with ScotchThe last week has seen opportunities for our new Year 11 students and our Year 8 students to connect with our brother school, Scotch College. Last week, our new Year 11 students joined Scotch College on a river cruise. The night was filled with lots of fun and dancing; it was wonderful to see the friendships being formed. Thank you to Ms Deb McPhee for her organisation and the House Tutor Group teachers who attended the event.
On Tuesday afternoon, our Year 8 students joined in with the Year 8 Scotch College boys for an afternoon of fun games. The event was organised by Mr Matt Donaldson and led by our IB CAS students. Congratulations to all involved for fundraising $2,500 to support future projects for Matipwili, a rural village in Tanzania that PLC and Scotch College have had a longstanding partnership with since 2004.
The connections continue next week with our Year 7 students visiting Scotch College for a series of fun, interactive activities. Rebecca Watts

In recently reported trading results on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX), one of Australia’s leading food retailers comparing trading results pre and post-pandemic said that its busiest and most profitable trading day was now Sunday. It brought home to me quite forcibly the dramatic changes that have taken place in our society in recent years, for it is not all that long ago that shops closed at 5.30 pm in the afternoon, noon on Saturdays, with legislation preventing trade on Sundays.

Christmas Appeal Together with the St Vincent de Paul Society, PLC is supporting 20 families that have endured trauma by making a contribution of gifts, helping them to celebrate this holiday season. The generous donations from our PLC Senior School community will help fill 20 boxes with wrapped presents that will be given to these families. You can help by buying, wrapping, and labelling a gift with the gender, family number, and age of the family member to be donated in the boxes located near the McNeil Street Reception for each House.
Information on the allocation of family members will be provided to students during House Tutor Group meetings, at which studens can also register. Some age-appropriate gift ideas include: - Adult Female: feminine products/hand or body lotion, skin care, perfume, scarf, purse, bag, candle, shampoos etc
- Adult Male: socks, aftershave, sunglasses, deodorant, backpack etc
- Teenage Girl: toiletries, games, perfume, stationery, sports equipment etc

University Extension Programmes 2023PLC students in Years 10 – 12 who have demonstrated high academic ability are eligible for the Curtin University Rising Scholars Programme (RSP) and UWA Starter Programme. University extension allows students to experience university coursework before the demands of an IB Diploma or ATAR load in Year 11 or 12, or by providing younger students with a taste of different disciplines before entering upper school. Curtin University Rising Scholars Programme (RSP) The Curtin University Rising Scholars Programme (RSP) will be launched in 2023 to replace the existing Innovative Schools Scholars’ Programme (ISSP). It offers high-achieving students first-hand experience of learning at Curtin University while still in school, allowing students to earn University credits. Students engage with staff and students on campus, in blended learning or online units. UWA Starter
Pilot The UWA Starter Pilot will provide a unique opportunity for PLC students to get started on their university experience with UWA by completing micro-credentials (micro-creds). A micro-cred is an abridged version of a course with modified assessments. Upon completion, students are awarded two credit points towards a degree rather than the full six point accreditation full participation would ordinarily entail. The advantage of a micro-cred is that students have access to unit content and resources without the burden of a full assessment schedule.
