The power of community collaboration | Backtrack X ARC We recently partnered with Backtrack Youth Works to tackle an important safety issue in Sylvia Crescent. A large, overgrown tree had been blocking part of the road, making it extremely difficult for drivers to see oncoming traffic and creating a dangerous situation for local residents. As the property was privately owned, Council was unable to undertake the pruning works directly. That’s where the Backtrack team came in. They stepped up and did a sensational job clearing the tree and restoring visibility for road users. Their efforts have made the area safer and deserve recognition for the positive impact on our community. Water team's efforts ensure water quality for community Council’s water team continuously monitors the region’s water supplies to ensure it is safe for the community. This involves frequent testing, and analysis by external laboratories including NSW Health Pathology. The NSW Health labs perform routine microbiological, cyanobacteria toxins, inorganic chemical, and physical testing for NSW Health’s Drinking Water Monitoring Program for water utilities in regional areas such as Guyra. This helps to ensure drinking water in regional and rural areas is compliant with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. An external, NATA accredited lab is also engaged by the council to undertake weekly testing on all blue-green algae species present in the dam. Council’s Manager Water and Wastewater, Mark Byrne explains that because of this rigorous program, Guyra residents can feel confident that the water coming through their taps is safe.
