Dear Residents,

Thank you to all our lovely seniors who attended our free activities over the past week to celebrate the NSW Seniors Festival! From golf at our Hudson Park Driving Range, to enjoying the performances held in Strathfield Town Hall, over 300 people turned out it was great to see you all having a marvellous time and proving that age is just a number! The good times don’t have to stop, we still have many programs for seniors running throughout the year. Please see the events calendar for more details.

Did you know that the Bay-to-Bay walking and cycleway has received a glow up? Located along Bates St and up to Railway Bridge, the new path is much safer and enjoyable! You can read info on the future upgrades to the track here.

There are so many projects and works going on in the Strathfield area every day. You can stay up to date with things happening in your local area by visiting our Current Projects page on the website. From park upgrades to footpaths and roads, make sure you stay in the know about your home.

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.bcai@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999.

Rita Smith and the Beaufort Bomber

March is Women’s History Month.

In 1942 the contribution of women to the local war effort was highlighted by the example of Rita Smith. Rita had given up her well-paying job as manageress of a beauty parlour to work at the Department of Aircraft Production’s factory at the Chullora Railway Workshops where the front fuselage of the Beaufort Bomber plane was constructed. Before the Women’s Employment Board, Judge Foster noted the sacrifices made by female employees who were paid substantially less than the men. Rita travelled from Neutral Bay for her 12-hour shifts as no accommodation was available nearby.
