A year of change and new opportunitiesHello and welcome, Well, what a whirlwind of a year it has been. While COVID-19 continued to invade our lives, it didn’t stop us adapting and moving forward. In many ways change, adapting and being responsive has become the new norm. But there are some things that don’t change, And that is there are children and young people that are traumatised that need our help. Throughout the year we heard many of you recount experiences, stories of working through challenging circumstances to
get the best outcomes for the kids in your care. For that effort and your amazing perseverance, we applaud you. No matter if the result was a big win, a tiny win or no win at all, the fact that you had the courage to stand up to your convictions. To do the best you could ,to the best of your ability, with what you had. That’s worth its weight in gold. Now as we come towards the end of 2021, I hope that you’ll have some time for relaxation and reconnecting with family and friends. Thank you for all that you have done for the young people in your care. As always, it has been a privilege walking alongside you this year. I look forward to our shared work together next year (2022). Have a happy holiday season. Janise Mitchell, Director

Supporting children in out-of-home care to cope with ambiguous lossWhen you think of grief and loss, what comes to your mind? You may think of the immense sorrow one may experience. For some of us, we can seek solace and take comfort in mourning rituals. Our loved ones may help us come to terms with the loss and find strength to live with it.
