Junior School Notices

TERM 4 WEEK 6

Dear valued member of the PLC community,

Another week has simply whizzed by as we prepare for the end of the year while we also look forward to welcoming new families and students to Orientation Day on Friday 18 November.

The last few weeks of term are a busy time as our Pre-Primary students work hard to prepare for their Nativity performance, the Year 6 students their final assembly, and Suzuki Strings their Christmas concert. We are also preparing for the future, with our Orientation Day giving pupils in Kindergarten to Year 5 the opportunity to visit their new classrooms and make connections with those children joining PLC in 2023. It is an interesting juxtaposition for students which can be both exciting and unsettling as familiar routines change as we get ready to close one year, but welcome another.

As there may be disruptions to the normal timetable over the following weeks, our teachers will keep parents informed about any alterations via Seesaw or the PLC App.

    Remembrance Day

Last Friday, we commemorated Remembrance Day with a moving whole school service organised by our Junior School students and staff.

It was lovely to see the whole school come together to reflect on and remember those who served and sacrificed in all wars and conflicts.

    Important Information

    Health Reminder

We have seen an increase in flu-like symptoms at school and remind families and students to please stay at home if unwell.

We have a supply of RATS for collection from the Uniform Shop during opening hours.

A Reminder of the Definition of Close Contact

A close contact is a household or household-like contact, or intimate partner of a person with COVID-19 who has had contact with them during their infectious period.

The infectious period for a person with COVID-19 is taken from 48 hours before onset of symptoms or 48 hours before the positive test result, if there are no symptoms.

Close contacts don’t need to isolate but to reduce the risk to others it is recommended that you:

    • Monitor for COVID-like symptoms and test for COVID-19 if symptoms develop
    • Wear a mask when indoors and on public transport, if you must leave the house
    • Test for COVID-19 with a rapid antigen test (RAT) before leaving home each day for five days
    • Avoid large gatherings and crowded indoor places.

    Claire Eaton

After Orientation Day has concluded, the students in Years 4, 5, and 6 will go to the Senior School Auditorium between 2.00 pm and 3.00 pm to listen to a presentation by Claire Eaton.

Claire will be sharing her thoughts and practical strategies around friendships. I know that both the students and parents gained some excellent tips and ideas from her around transitioning to Senior School, so I am sure that this session will be equally as valuable.

    Holiday Programme

The next PLC Holiday Programme will run Wednesday 18, Thursday 19, and Friday 20 January from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm at $50 per day.

Some excellent community partnerships will deliver the sessions including Fremantle Football Club and Perth Scorchers (with current players), K2 Dance, Netball WA, Aspire Tennis, Mark Lee Football Club, Hockey (current Olympian), and MBA Sports.

Each day is unique, with students covering four different sports sessions each day.

This is open to female students from Pre-Primary to Year 7 from any school, so book now to secure your spot! And don't forget to tell your friends.

    PLC Parent Representatives

The PLC Parents Committee are looking for keen and engaged volunteers to take on Parent Representative roles in both the Junior and Senior School. In these roles, you would help as a communicator to families from your year group, liaise with parents, the PLC Parents Committee and the School, assist with year group events, and play a role in the PLC Parents Committee decision-making. You might have a daughter/s or connection across this year group, and are enthusiastic to help foster an active and inclusive parent community!

To register your interest in this role, please email Emily Chee at emilyclare76@yahoo.com.au for Junior School Parent Representative positions and Kathryn Wilson at kathrynwils@gmail.com for Senior School positions.

We encourage all parents from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 to take on one of these valuable roles. Please do not hesitate to contact the Junior School Co-ordinator, Emily Chee, and Senior School Co-ordinator, Kathryn Wilson, should you have any queries or concerns. A list of the 2022 PLC Parents committee members and their contact details can be accessed here.

Your kind donations will be distributed through the charity group Give Write which collects donations of new and pre-loved stationery and recycles, repackages, and redistributes them to children in need so they have the tools to feel engaged and inspired to learn.
